Nice looking 126 Roland.... waaay better than mine. I think the actual production number was 5247 but there seems to be quite a few of them left, I see posts about them on several forums quite often. Ive kinda held off working on mine because it seems every time I get a tractor working properly I turn around and sell it... Im not sure I want to sell this one... it would look real cute parked beside my Loboy at the annual Antique Truck/Tractor show here in Irricana Alberta.

Rare or not... they are a nice looking tractor;)

Congrats on the 126.:beerchug:
It's only money, and you can't take it with you, and no sense in leaving it behind for someone to fight over...:bigthink:

Nice 126!! Glad you got it!

Oh yeah, by the way... you can never stop buying more Cubs... you have yellow fever if you have ever bought more than one!!:beerchug:

I've been messing with Cub Cadets for 40 years and we have only ever owned one 126... I agree... one of the more rare models!

Good find... keep on cubbin!!!:beerchug:

Ambrola, don't forget, some of the guys on here make the mistake of posting before they have their coffee in the morning (or after having a couple shots late at night). So their gentile demeanor is sometimes obscured by a gruff (impatient) response. Just ignore it, it's not personal.

This discussion brings up an interesting topic--one I've not seen discussed here. And that is the transition from all gear drive tractors to mostly hydros. And the fact that they limited gear drives to 12hp. No 146 or 148 tractors. (until the 82 series I guess). Must have been market forces, consumer demand for the "automatic transmission" hydros. There remained a market for gear drives, however--those of us with steep hillsides--where the gear drive reigns supreme for constant speed up and down hills. If I could only have two Cubs, I'd want a 128 and a 149.

Oh, and nice 126. Don't have one myself.

One reason I remember for the lack of early hydros was $$$$$$$. A Cub Cadet was an expensive purchase for many people in the '60's/'70's. In the early '70's, my wife worked, I worked but we had just built a new house and I needed a riding mower to replace my old pieced together RJ 58 Wheel Horse.

The CC dealer down the road wanted something like $1029 for a new 108. $12?? for a 128/9 and about $1500 for a 149. Lot's of money in those days for me. I decided I couldn't even afford a new 108, let alone the higher priced hydro. Besides, people were still leery of that new fangled "automatic" transmission.

I was fortunate enough to buy a one year old 108 from my cousin that had cut the grass one time for $750. That is as close as I ever came to owning a brand new CC.

My buddy bought a brand new 128 about the same time. He used it until the engine started to smoke a little and then parked it. He still has it. Been sitting idle in the barn for years.

If the reason was consumer driven towards hydrostatic then I wonder why the 128 isn't on the rare list.

It will be your last until a nice looking super or a 800 pops up 30 minutes from you. Then the new tractor is the last. I was looking on eBay last night and saw were a 126 got parted.

Congrats on your 126! There is one on CL over by Louisville ky for $200. Ad says not running. Picture shows it inside and in good shape. I might have to go get it. :beerchug

Well,
Maybe I shouldn't have said last tractor? If a 129 or 800 ever comes my way, it would be hard to pass. I got a call last night from a guy about 30 miles from me who has 2 Originals. My favorite tractor so far. I really want to look at them, fenders, one with deck, 500 bucks? I have the money, but space is my problem. I don't have 40 acres and a barn. :biggrin2: I can honestly say that if a 129 ever comes around, I will get it. I have even bought a new toolbox and a lot more tools just because I love tools. Don't know how to use them though? I broke a bolt on the Voltage Regulator on my 124, and can not get it out. Drill it out and re-tap?
