Thanks for the kind words everyone. I currently have a 1715 that does the mowing chores. Well, that and a 14 year old son! :biggrin2:

The plan is to get this one running and mowing, and then possibly moving the 1715 on to greener pastures. I wanted the gear drive vs. belt and the rear is MUCH stronger, along with the rest of the tractor. I doubt the 1715 will be in the same shape when its a half-century old. I'm torn between going through the tractor while I'm working on it or simply getting it into service for now.

Alvy, yes, we need to hang out again. Ya know, the January show is coming up on the weekend of the 17th. I'll be over there several days and you're welcome to come on over. We don't have the same two spots, but instead got two over by the end of the track. We'll have room for Cubs! I'm seriously considering a deck, now that I know the engine is good. We'll have to talk.

Where in Fl are you? I have a tank from a 72 your welcome to have.

Thanks for the offer C69ss. Very kind of you. The tractor came with a 7-hp fuel tank, and the engine has a 12-hp tank mount, so I'm torn as to whether to go with the larger tank's mount and find a tank or use the smaller tank and find a new mount. :bigthink:

I could go either way. I zip tied the smaller tank on the engine to see if it runs. Now to get it to run RELIABLY!!!!

Got a little work done to the 70. I fabbed up a mount for the smaller 7-hp tank and spent a little time cleaning out the carb. I checked out the diff (only had to remove two bolts) and everything looked good. Sealed it and filled it.

Figured out some of the "extra wiring" that hung on the front of the engine and shortened a few as necessary. A couple more terminals, some new battery cables and a hold-down to keep it from floating forward and it was ready to run without hot-wring everything. New starter button and a new key made it stop and start on command.

I cleaned it up so that I wouldn't need a doctor's confirmation that my tetanus booster was up to date each time I sat on it, and I must say, the ol' girl isn't looking too bad! Couple more things and it'll be slinging grass soon! My brother has a deck that I'm going to try and fit to it. It's not the cast-side type, but the grass won't be offended. :biggrin2:

Looks great buddy, nice progress, glad to see that auxillary gas tank has been removed. I texted you a couple times lately just to see how you've been. Hope things are going well.

PS: you might want to Flip that drag link tie rod end over or it will get bent with some articulation of the steer axle.

I'd like to locate the plate that attaches to the transaxle and acts as a solid platform for the seat to bolt upon. As you can see, I have the small one, but need the larger one. I can get one made, if I can't find one. The reason is that I wanted to lower the seat, and I figured that bolting it to the diff would lower it, and I don't think that it'll hit the fenders. Once I get a plate, I'll try it and see.

My Originals both have the plate, but they're using them! :biggrin2: Maybe I'll borrow one to make a template. :bigthink:

Got a few minutes in on the 70 today. I've been piecing together a mower deck from some parts that my brother got me. I've got everything ready to go and found out that the arm that goes from the front of the mower deck to the rock shaft was wrong.

Turns out that it was angled in such a way that it hit the lift lever at the rock shaft. A little heat and a tweak, and it was good to go. Then, the slot for the rock shaft wasn't deep enough and the lift arm lever wouldn't come all the way back. So, a little more grindin' and things fit pretty good now! :BangPC:

Just made a quick clip of a bit of the yard to make sure that it'll work okay. A little more tuning and we'll be clipping grass!! :beer2::beerchug::beer2::beerchug::beer2:

It was soooooo much nicer not to have to deal with the electric clutch cutting out each time I had to back up! :biggrin2:

Your 100 is really taking shape, you've come a long way with it, congratulations.

FWIW, the Originals were the only "round fender" Cubs that had the pan between the fenders. Not to say that I think the pan between the fenders would be a bad idea but I'm wondering if the "seat mount" from a 102 would work out better (see link below)?
