Both cam followers are shot. Tried the drill press and file route, no workie. I'm taking them today to see if I can get them turned down in a lathe. ISO mounts arrived so hopefully I can get one of the 2- 1450s back together and running this long weekend.

Ended up using my 1/2" drill and a grinder to dress the cam followers.
Had a big weekend planned, install both steering colums & the rebuilt engine then get both 1450s up & running. That got shot all to blazes. Super steering kits didn't arrive. Went to install new ISO mounts and I am short 1 lower mount. I checked the fit of the modified engine cradle to ISO mounts and it doesn't fit. 7" wide in front, 6&3/4" in center and 6&1/2" in rear. 6 new wheel bearings did arrive. Did get the wheel bearings in the steering column. Loose fit so I tried center punching around the housing, that didn't work, so I used adhesive silicone. Took front wheels off newest 1450 to install new wheel bearings. I wondered why the PO would give me 2 extra front wheels. They are shot, old bearings cracked/ chipped and pieces ground away the wheel bearing seating surface. The wheels that are on the 1450 are so bent up they were cutting the left steering knuckle. Both steering knuckles have play in them, lack of grease I figure. I turned the wheels inside out so I can at least check the tranny once I get the steering column back in & get a new iginition switch. Going to Sears Hardware today and check their machine bearings and thrust washers to see if I can make a super steering kit. I don't think the PO knew what a grease gun was. All tie rod ends were loose. I took the belt cover off the 44C and found the belt has a cut 3/4 of the way thru. 1 rear wheel is broken and the idler pulley bearing was gone. Thank God I had a 50A to steal parts from. Spindles are in good shape, but again, I don't think the PO knew what a grease gun was. Removed the hydraulic valve from the old 1450 & mounted it back on the steering column. Now I play a waiting game.

I rebuilt the brakes yesterday on my 1st 1450. Followed Matt's article in the tractor tech section. Used a razor blade floor scraper & hammer to remove most of the old pad, then a wire brush on my 1/2" drill. Couldn't find the Red Devil adhesive Matt used, so I used 5 minute expoxy. Have to remove the left front steering knuckle today and get the cuts welded up, then get 2 front wheels. On the 2nd 1450s brakes, I'll put rubber bands around them. 1st set shifted a bit when I clamped them. Didn't see that because of the plastic bags around them. Plastic bags are a must, as they would have been stuck together.

Got the rebuilt engine in yesterday afternoon. Ended up pulling the front axle to install the front bolts. Modified engine cradle didn't fit again after being rewelded so I installed just the rails again. Hopefully I'll get both steering boxes rebuilt and installed, then one 1450 will be usable. Waiting on an ignition switch for the 2nd 1450.

Was changing the engine oil and hydro filter early this morning when I found that the engine isn't bolted to the ISO mount rails. I hope nothing is messed up. I'll have to remove this front axle also. ISO mount bolts aren't tight either. I wonder what the PO was thinking, or just didn't care? By the condition of the tractor & deck, I'd say he just didn't care.

Both steering boxes rebuilt, one installed in the newest 1450. Oldest Grandson, (10), came over & helped yesterday. What a shock! I haven't heard from PO as to why the engine was not bolted in. I can turn it over by hand, so I guess I'll have to bolt it back in and see what happens. Hope to get the 1st 1450 with rebuilt engine running today. Then try the 44C deck out. I found that Tractor Supply had the best price for air cooled engine oil, $3.99 quart & garden tractor batteries, $37.00.

Finally got the dual 140 fired up. Had an oil leak between the PTO and block during the 1st 15 minute run. Let the engine cool down and retorqued the head. Wow, the head bolts were only @ 15 ft/lbs. Ran the engine the second 15 minutes and no oil leak. Maybe oil was still on the block and when heated up, ran off. Engine seems to be running hot, spark plug base is now blue. Have good air flow across the head. Engine runs on after the switch is turned off. Have to work on throttle, hardly and mid range rpms. Need to reverse the front axle. Noticed yesterday that it's in backwards. Pivot pin grease fittting is in the rear. Can't get the hoods to aline on either 1450. Had both dashes and grills off to replace the steering columns and now neither hood will aline with the dashes. Both grills are back as far as they will go.

What a weekend. Replaced all head bolts on #1 & installed 2 Carlisle turf tires. Installed the 1" steering knucles, brake pads, Tiny Tach, 3 point hitch, tiller drive and 2 Carlisle Turf IIs on #2. Had to adjust WOT, it was set @ 3,000 rpms. Hope to get the snowthrower installed on #2 and both blades & V Bar chains installed on #1 this week. Ordered 2 link chains for #2. The aftermarket engine mounts have more vibritation then the OEM mounts. They will get changed in the spring. Had to shim all front wheels, seemed to be a lot of sideways movement, even with new wheel bearings. Once everything is mounted, I'll post pics. Did get the hood to seat correctly on #2, but #1 still giving me problems. Working on angling brackets and a hydraulic cylinder for the 42" front blade.
