Allen,
I believe I will keep this tractor as a red and white version. All the yellow will now be red, and the white will remain white / off white. Found some nice looking rattle can red at Wally World and have the flywheel shroud cleaned primed and painted. Looks good.
Some pictures next week.
I did pick up carb gaskets and points and condenser at Cub dealer in Centerville.

Chris

No comments on the red and white theme?

Yes, as a matter of fact, IH painted the "test" Original Cub Cadets redand white, then changed to the yellow/white colors. But only about 25 of them. I too like the dark, sorta red color on the 147 myself! Doggone it! I was planning on the Wayne tractor show, as I'am not far from it. But I did come across a gentalman named Greg who has the creeper I'am looking for with shaft for 175.00. My uncle and wife went, so I put the word out. I guess it is a HECK of a show, did you see the big motor and was it running? Sorry, you have a nice 147, It dont look as bad as I thought! Cheers! Sorry, I dont believe for sure if anybody has any red O's. But the basic Ih red was a option of color, then scrapped? Not trying to mislead!

John,
The 147 has many nice PO mod's (not), will try to work through them and not spend a arm and leg. I think Greg was the guy I met too. The Wayne show was very good. We try to go each year. You need to come to the Pioneer Steam And gas show July 14 and 15 at Sagertown PA just off I-79 and Rt 198 interchange. Cubs are the feature tractors along with all Corn Binders.
I think any paint on the 147 will look good. Interesting that they did paint some early models red and white. too!
I have had several "red and white" restoration projects over the years, a antique buggy, and a 1955 Ford Crown Victoria.
I will post some pictures too see what you think!
Regards,
Chris

So long as the red is IH/Farmall red, and white is a close match to IH white (it's not too difficult to find the correct colors) it's fine in my book. Seeing "pre red" (1932 is when the red came out I think) IH tractors kind of bugs me, I'd rather see them in the correct colors (granted, they're not as pretty. Gray. Yawn...zzz...zzz...)

Each to their own. If everyone thought like me, it'd be pretty boring and there'd be nothing to debate about.:beer2:

The most important thing about paint is prep. :)

AMC,
Thanks for the comments! I do Appreciate those and consider all of them too! Well I may not meet your specs? I will post some shots next week for review.
Since the Cub collection is growing and this one had been red when I brought it home, It just kind of grew on me.
I agree that the prep is the key to good paint job. I have done finished work on cars but will probably not go to the same level for the Cub.
Still like to have these looking good.

Chris

Guys, 147 update!
Almost afraid to post with out pictures, but would you believe me that I have been working on the 147!:)
I promise to post some shots of the progress.
I have been working to about 10:00 each night on it and am too pooped to post when I get in.
Some of the moves:
Pulled PTO ( may nee new outer casting as PO ruined one hole)
Pulled starter drive pulley ( needed slight amount of heat and new pullers)
Pulled flywheel (required new flat puller)
Welded guard over Elec lift
Pulled steering wheel.

Here is a partial list of the parts removed cleaned primed painted and set aside.
gas tank
pivot bracket to engage PTO in lower grill casting
gas tank bands
throttle linkage
air cleaner support
air cleaner cover
starter brace of engine
valve cover
tin covering flywheel
support plate for muffler (welded crack)
rods and turnbuckle for PTO engagement
small tins for carb side and opp-side
screen for flywheel
governor linkage
coil mount
bracket for regulator and hood support
cover for shifter hole
pulley for starter gen on engine
flywheel

Cleaned and rebuilt carb
Cleaned and degrease elec lift, ( still needs work)
cleaned fuel sediment bowl and valve.
continue to clean and degrease engine as parts come off.
Hood has been stripped inside and out and straightened, primer and filled, sanded and primed, more work required.
Pulled off the fenders and foot pads, ( Used the welding on a nut to the top of the round headed bolts, which worked great). Started to strip the fenders but may have them blasted?

Yikes!
I will have some pictures! Really I will! Remember its going to be IH red and white so don't be shocked!
Regards,
Chris

By the way, I have a sign shop just a stone throw from my house if you would like a hood decal with red stripe instead of the factory blue, check out my build thread "Cub 149 Resto-mod" for pics if how mine turned out.
