HeyThatMowerGuy! Nice Score Dude! Angle drive on the rear for a tiller too! 149's a nice cub to have and fix up. Get it going and you'll love it!:beerchug:

The 149 doesn't look that bad. Heck, the taillights are even in one piece. I like the 149 so much that I have 2 of them.
There will be very little compression when you turn the engine over by hand due to the ACR (Automatic Compression Release). This makes it easier for the starter/generator to crank the engine over and once it fires there should be full compression. There is no way to know until it is running. Good luck with it. |
No I don't think it is too bad of shape myself for its age anyway... I will hope that the ACR is the reason for the seemingly no compression but I haven't verified if the pistion is even moving inside it... It was given to me by an older lady it was her husbands machine. I went to buy an old grazer zero turn from her which is a neat / scary machine by itself....
She was going to see if she could find the original books for it. She said something went wrong with it years ago but she did t know what it was. She said that all she knew was how attached her husband was to it... She said all he'd say was it was going to sit right there in the barn until he got a chance to fix it and he wasn't going to ever get rid of it. And now here it it with 1/8" of barn dirt coating it!!!!! |
149 is one of the better cubs. 14 hp, hydro lift and head and taillights. Yours looks to be complete and worth some effort to get it back in shape. There is plenty of good help here for you too.

Welcome to OCC! Congrats and good luck on your 149!

Man, I love barn finds! Very nice 149, the dirt is very attractive to IH Cub Cadet owners! IH Cub Cadet always made a killer garden tractor! Hope to read and see more about this 149!
Welcome to Only Cub Cadets! :IH Trusted Hand: |
Ok so this has a Kohler k321a engine in it. Is there anything that I should look for specifically? Anyone have a direction to info on this engine that you could point me in? Any particular problems these machines had? I've read what I could find online about the engines having weak connecting rods:bigeyes:... Hopfully thats not what I find and maybe the ACR has the intake valve stuck open a bit from sitting so long but as I rolled it over with my hand again I did notice a rattle sound that sounded as if it were coming from inside the engine...
I plan on tearing into the tractor this weekend and cleaning it up. There are mud dobber nests everywhere in it and on it... I will post pictures of the condition after the wash as I'm sure you all are just as eager to see it all cleaned up as I am. I did notice that the wires for the headlights are no where to be found...:bigthink: and that there is something missing on the dashboard in the upper right corner.:bigthink: It's just a hole in the dash but can't read anything because of the dirt. There is a round switch next to the ignition swith and I figure that it is for the lights... |
How does the song go, "here might be a little dust on the bottle
But don't let it fool ya about what's inside" good looking 149. |
