I picked up a plow I found on CL. Fits great on my 782.

West Valley G 01-30-2021 09:38 PM

Love it, a blade is one of those " I'm gonna get one one of those someday"
items. Looks good.

Ken

K241S 01-30-2021 10:22 PM

Thank you. I can't wait to use it.

Looks good! Now you need some wheel weights and chains!

K241S 01-30-2021 10:37 PM

I have wheel weights on my 100. I could use those if needed.

Looking good! Just recently put a plow blade on mine ($50) and prayed for snow. Got a couple inches, just enough... def gonna fill the tires with prop glycol and add some weight out back. But for a small snowfall it worked. Monday we're due for several inches of snow with some rain on top.. see how that goes without the weight.

Installed hood stops on my wide frames
Keeps the nose of the hood from hitting the grill frame.

^^^^ OK, now that is smart, tidy and effective! I need a new hinge and now I need that set up too.

Today I got my girlfriend out of bed at 7 to drive 2 hours one way to pick up a K161 for the Mystery Cub/70 along with some other parts. Then started dissassembling the Tecumseh in it in prep for having the frame welded back to it's original dimensions.
Then, after breaking it loose from it's resting place under a maple with a 1970 Ford F250 (which almost got stuck itself), my faithful 122 dragged this old Case hay rake into the open to be sold today!Attachment 107101

It's been 5yrs since i converted my 1211 to dual hydraulics and 3yrs since i bought a power angle plow and I am happy to report that the plow is finally on the tractor and everything works as it should.

Welcome back Tim.

CubbyRI 02-01-2021 05:21 PM

Thats awesome! Just got back in from 2nd ever plowing with the 100, and was thinking it needs power lift and power angle (and more rear weight) as shown from today:

This latest storm lasted 2 days. Local weather in town said we had a total of 33". It was 18* Monday so I plowed with the 125 that always starts no matter how cold it is. There was about 14" and it was nice any dry, but today's was 35* and the snow was a lot wetter, and there was a lot more of it. I started to run out of places to push it, so I had the use the walk behind to get rid of the 4' pile the town left at the end of the driveway.

More to come on Saturday they say... and welcome back Tim.

CubbyRI 02-02-2021 06:06 PM

darkminion, are the 125's tires loaded? any traction issues when u tried to push the wet snow? my 100 with skinny ags, no weight, had some tire spin with just a few inches of wet snow...

darkminion_17 02-02-2021 06:50 PM

They are not loaded, the weights are 85lbs each and had no problem with the dry snow,
spun the wheels a little with the wetter stuff but I was pushing 18" deep snow when I went to pile it up.

Glad somebody is having fun. I haven't plowed for 3yrs since we got a new house with a blacktop driveway. Just salting it has kept it clear with the little snow we've had.

Over the weekend I took them all out of hibernation for a ride and pictures. All but the two with plows, 125 and 1450, have been sitting since November. Only one dead battery on the 126. The rest started right up.

No pictures, but I plowed Sunday and Tuesday with the 125. I tried on Monday too, but there was too much, had to use the truck. A snowblower would have been nice. We had about 18-20 inches. I’m all out of places to push it, and they are saying we may get another storm over the weekend.

CubbyRI 02-03-2021 03:10 PM

Today I decided to tackle the frozen choke and throttle cables. Took the throttle control off the inside of the tower (two round head machine screws with nuts and lock washers inside) and found that the cable jacket unscrews from the throttle lever assembly. (which means a replacement would need to be the exact same diameter and thread pitch) so I pulled the inner cable out, clamped one end in the vice and pulled some 320 sandpaper to clean it up. Then flushed the inside with wd40, and pb blaster, then poured graphite powder in the end and pumped some engine assembly lube. Also coated the inner cable itself after fixing any bends. For the choke, I had to straighten the zee bend at the carb with plyers to yank it out. I wasnt about to try and get the backer nut off the choke way inside the tower. Did the same procedure, and remade the zee bend after the inner cable was back in.

They both work again great but not sure how long this kind of fix will last tho...

As long as you don't let it sit out in the weather it should last forever.

I will also add that when I have cables with no coating on them I always put shrink tube on them to seal them shut so moisture stays out and the lube stays in.

CubbyRI 02-03-2021 03:23 PM

Thanks Tim, yeah its outside for now no shed for it. I will get a small tarp tho... and the heat shrink idea may be just the ticket at least for the parts thats not underneath the hood..

Plowed a path to my shooting backstop so I could play with a couple of my favorite 1911s

paulcc169 02-10-2021 09:24 PM

I plowed the snow on my driveway with my cc169, never had to use even 1/2 the throttle.

I will be installing a set of 2in wheel spacers , this will give me 4 additional inches of wheel track in the rear.

Also I discovered that my reverse is as fast as my forward. Not good. Have to get under the frame and see what is going on with the linkage.

More better to remove tunnel cover, yes?

Well if you say so, I have only had my Cub for 6 months and Im still learning. If I had to guess, Im going faster in reverse than I do in forward and Im going plenty fast in forward so I know something is amiss.

But speaking of the tunnel cover, I noticed that the bolts that hold it on were somewhat loose, I looked at the screws (somewhat fine thread, closest thing I could find was 12-24. But it just seemed like the wrong screw, so I made the bold move to tap those holes with 1/4-20 and Im glad I did. The cover holds down like it was meant to and 1/4-20 is a standard ubiquitous bolt.

There are adjustments for that. Plenty of help on this forum, but best to start a new thread if you need it.

Well, excellent choice to tap those holes. I've done that, like 10 times. LOL. Makes it so easy. I use 1/4-20 Phillips head screws. A long screwdriver reaches those pesky front screws easily.

As to the speed issue, remove the tunnel cover and adjust the length of the rod that runs from the speed control column to the hydro's cam plate. Might want to check the hydro's trunnion while you are at it. A common wear point that often needs attention and repair to get consistent hydro speed control and it's possible something has been jury-rigged there as well. The tech library has lots of stuff on trunnion repairs.

Good luck!

Many thanks!.. I actually enjoy tinkering on this tractor.. by the way, I finished installing the 2in wheel spacers for a total of 4in of added track.

Woke up yesterday to 5 inches of snow (and still falling) that I didn't believe was actually coming, so I didn't have the plow on. :bash2:
Shoveled a couple driveways by hand, then spent the twilight hours wrestling the plow onto the 122. Got it on, then found out the battery was dead. The dumdum who ran it last left the key in the on position after shutting off the gas.
So, this morning, with the snow STILL falling (up to about 8 inches now, maybe more) fired it up, grabbed my girlfriend for ballast (don't own any weights) and plowed our 500 foot driveway, as well as two neighbors.
Got done, into the field for some fun driving, and she promptly threw a tire. The wheel was turning, the tire was not. :bash2:
So, now, she's tarped up until the snow stops falling and/or I can dig the spare wheels and tires out of the storage area.
Anyone know what size the rears are for a 122? Mine have been on since before my dad bought her almost 30 years ago, before I was born, and the numbers are all but illegible. All I can make out is "Goodyear"
:bigthink:

Depends on what size rims are on the tractor;.

LOL thats funny. Cool GF to ride with you. My ol lady rode on my lap the other day on the 100. :) (Not easy to make that work but it was fun!) I was told that skinny ags with lots of weight are best for plowing. But its really about weight mostly I think. I use all inner tubes in everything to avoid flats, add some strength, and better for liquid filling.

For tires on my 123 I bought 23X8.50-12 ag tires. I have the wider rear wheels. The skinny rears on my 100 model use 6-12 tires.

These are the 123's tires i bought:

Yeah, riding double on a single seat is not easy. I have a 2x12 plank in place of a seat just for carrying a passenger, so we both rode sidesaddle, she operated the lift lever, leaving me free to shift, throttle, and steer.
Mine has turf tires, not ag, but they are definitely not as wide as the ones you said you put on the 123. The 6-12's look pretty close. It's a place to start, anyhow! I may not replace it if it didn't take too much damage, maybe
a tube. Thank you for the size marks!
