Are you sure you have a k341? There should be 10 head bolts.

The 1650 rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler K341AQS-71221 engine in it.
That engine used a Kohler Adjustable Carb 45-053-08 -----> Repl by: 45-853-12-S |
I started doing a little disassembly to see how many headbolts there are. This is the first time I am doing any of this.
I have the motor cover moving freely, but i can’t move it out of the way. What else do I need to take apart to get a look? Obviously, I am trying to avoid taking apart more than necessary. I’d like to post a photo, but can’t seem to do it. I figured you just click on the photo icon in the bar above the response box, but nothing happens when I do that. For what it is worth, the motor cover has a sticker on it that says Kohler 16hp, but i suppose someone could have put that original cover back on a replacement motor. |
In order to access the head bolts you need to remove the top tins on the engine.

Thanks, Finruskw. Any advice on what to do to get a good enough look to count the headbolts?

Actually, after looking a some Kohler engine photos, I think the part I am talking about is not the flywheel cover. I'm talking about the sheetmetal cover that the spark plug sticks through. This would be a lot easier if I could get a photo to post.

That's the one you need to remove.
Why bother, It's a PITA, unless of course you need to remove the head for some reason. Just get the carb working right and see how/if it runs. |
finsruskw, the only reason I want to remove that cover is to confirm this really is a 16hp motor, not a smaller engine that someone replaced the original with.

There should be a Model Tag attached to the Fan Shroud. Can you find that, and what is the model on that tag ??
