The other day I was replacing the adhesive 6" sanding disc in my benchtop belt/disc sander.
After a battle with it, I had the paper portion of the old disc peeled off but there was quite a bit of adhesive still left on the disc. I tried using acetone on a rag to get the adhesive off, but all it seemed to do was soften it and smear it around. It wouldn't wipe off with the rag but it enabled me to scrape a lot off with a razor blade. I still wanted the disc cleaner and looked around the shed for some other type of solvent. I found I had some xylene and tried that. It worked perfect, all the adhesive wiped off easily with a rag. I don't know if the xylene would have worked like it did before the acetone or if it was a combination of the two, but that's my story. Hope it helps. |

High proof hand sanitizer has worked most times for me as well as lighter fluid.
