modern starter

I changed my 128 over to use a gear starter and the charging stator under the flywheel ( simmilar to QL). I did not use the electric clutch. I made a new harness for mine there isn't really all that much to them. Easpecialy if you don't have any safty switches to worry about. If you can cun and weld modifying frame for large flywheel will be a breeze.

Will this work?

No, it will not. You can't have a V/R in there...use the rectifier on the engine. The solenoid will not work wired like that, and the ignition switch needs to be in the charging system so the battery can't discharge through the rectifier while the tractor is off. Just take a QL wiring diagram and erase everything that has to do with the PTO clutch and all the safety switches and you'll have what you need.

I hate to dissagree with mat here but if ljones is running a heavy wire from the battery to the solinoid and then pulling switch power off the "power in lug" of the solinoid it will work, (you just forgot to draw the wire from "s" to the side terminal on solinoid) You do however need to use a switch with an aux. terminal or add a relay into the line between the charge lug and the batt. I am assuming that you reg. in the picture is the recifier/regulator (witch ever term you prefer) off of ql motor, in witch the outside two lugs connect to the stator in any order and the center lug is the charge lug.

same thing you drew but with 4 wire switch, you can also use the aux. terminal to run the lights if you choose to have them

Hillbillly could you repost that image ?

ljones 08-18-2010 11:49 PM

It would work but Matt is right it would discharge through the recitifyer.

Recitifyers are EXPENSIVE.

Thats why I said you have to use the four terminal swithch with auxilary terminal or use a relay to isolate the charging circuit if you want to use your three wire switch.

The power coming from the stator is AC current. You need the recifier to convert ther power to DC.

There is a difference between a recifier and a regulator. A recifier converts ac current to dc current. A regulator does not.

We used a Quiet Line wire harness when my Son and I converted his 86 over to a starter/stator system. Only mod was the keyhole for the switch.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I will do the project if I can find a aqs engine .
