If those weren't the pistons then they looked just like them. What else would that be? |

I have NO IDEA what you found. Neither do you, and you lost it.... so no way anyone is going to be able to tell you what it was. You said shaft spins out the back of the hydro. While your trying to move it?? EVERYTHING you have said up to this point (stopped abruptly, no hydraulic lift, hard vibration....) points toward a broken roll pin, except for you say the shaft is spinning. Now I want to be very, very clear on this. I AM NOT talking about the driveshaft. I'm talking about the little stub shaft out the BACK of the hydro, that you can only see from the rear of the machine by looking under the battery tray, or by removing the fenders. Again, I am not talking about the shaft that you can easily see. Why don't you post a pic of the shaft I'm talking about when you find it. Thank you. |
I've got the battery, seat and fenders off. The shaft is spinning out the front and back sides of the hydro unit. So as I understand it, it's not the drive pin. Sorry I'm not there to get a picture right now.
Another thing I did was disconnect the two output ports on the top of the hydro. So it is possible that the pieces came out from there, not the filter. If that makes any more sense. And yes, you are right. I don't know what I am doing. That's why I am here asking questions. |

Shaft still spins on the back side of the hydro when put in forward or reverse. No change.
I disconnected the outlets because I was going to try to get into the charge pump to look at the pin in there. But I was having trouble getting the drive shaft pin out intact. I was kind of pinched on tools where I was at. And then I ran out of weekend. At this point I'm thinking of tearing the unit apart, figuring that I'm probably going to need a new hydro anyway. |
Maybe it's just not primed. How much oil is in it? What filter did you use? What oil? It's not uncommon for it to be hard to prime the pump after filter removal.
Don't go tearing it apart. I'm not yet convinced it's broken or bad. |
Why don't you post a pic of the shaft I'm talking about when you find it. Thank you.

I'm gonna throw my guess out there. I think the rear motor shaft roller bearing came apart and the rollers fell into the case and made it down the tube to the filter. Those are the only things I can find that fit the size description. Plus they are in a place that could get to the filter. A bearing going bad would also explain the noise before it quit.

That theory is plausible. Explains everything. Only thing is, oil submerged tapered roller bearings seldom fail. I have never seen that one fail. But I agree...... very possible. :bigthink:
