Well Todd, your father sounds like a very wise man. That is the same philosophy my dad had, he was a perfectionist in every thing he did. I guess that must have rubbed off over the years on both of us. Good luck.

Today's excitement. Did you ever get that feeling that you should have just left something where you found it?:biggrin2:
Pulled the fender pan, and ended up with a big surprise. A hardware store worth of nuts and washers... Also the tractors been "patched" poorly by someone. Went to pull the battery tray out and the damn thing was welded in three out the four bolts.:bash2: Plus a bead along both backsides of the tray. (some peoples kids)
So ended up grinding out the welds, and yeah, goobered up the tray, so that'll need some patching before it goes back in. Cut the bolts off to get the pan out. Got lucky, I was able to turn them up enough to get a vice-grips on it to get them out. :beerchug:
Pulled the cat 0 off. Now at least I can see some of the things I'll be up against.

It is a very dirty tranny, gotta find out where it is leaking.

Yep, kind of feel the same way about my 1811. Its getting shoved around while I do work that MUST be done.

What is up with that patch on the frame, did the frame break? What was the purpose of welding the tray in place?

Wish I had the answers myself John. Seems a tad on the WTF scale to me.

"What exactly is the plan with this 1". Well... Fix what "needs" fixing, and put it in the fleet. Either another grass cutter, or designated snow thrower, or??? I just like these CCC tractors for some reason. They are easy to work on, and the go lever is on the right side which makes them SO much easier for me to operate.
Okay, part of that statement isn't exactly 100% true. Some of the tractor is "easy" to work on.:biggrin2:

I bet the PO thinks he did a great job of repairing it. He probably thinks his repairs are better than what the engineers designed in. He must be related to the guy that I bought my last 1872 from.
