You said that your engine didn't have the spacer, but it does have a gasket on the carb correct?? As long as it does, your fine.

Yes, I have the gasket in between the carb and engine block.
The tractor is up and running again. The kid is having fun cutting grass now and soon to be plowing some dirt back in the woods.

If I may suggest,
if you are just plowing to see dirt turn, no problem.
But if you are planning to plant things in the woods, it will produce a poor harvest, ---------well maybe mushrooms?
