I will get on this tomorrow and get it working.

Here's what the rod ends look like.

The thread is 3/8-24 NF ( 3/8 fine thread ) and you will use a 9/16" wrench to tighten the nut. One wrench on the threaded portion and the other wrench to tighten the nut.

And if you can't find the tie rod end that fell off or it's damaged or just need replacements;

With a bit of luck, it is merely missing the nut. Good luck!

Algul Siento 08-02-2016 07:20 PM

Yep, I got the nut back on it after the good photo with the arrow on it.

Steers well now, ha ha.

The mower just up and quit on me 3 days ago, no spark. But that is a subject for another thread. :beerchug:

I will start a new thread on that maybe, after I drink some whiskey.

thanks,

Chances are you need a coil, my 104 just quit last week and it was the
47 year old coil believe it or not.

How did you come to that conclusion with just the info: "no spark"?

64fleetside 08-02-2016 10:49 PM

Just like i wrote, my 104 been runnin for 47 yrs -it quit last week and the coil was really hot, was painted yellow like the engine and rattled when removed. Installed a new one been runnin fine since. Apparently 47 yrs is the lifespan. Lol

I get that..... but there's like 4 or 5 other really simple things that can cause no spark on the OP's tractor. Not sure suggesting that "chances are the coil is bad" was a good guess based on the info given. May have a bad connection, burnt up points, point wire grounded out..... or a number of other things that would basically cost nothing to fix. Yes, I agree, the coil could be bad, but I don't think we should jump right to a $30 part that may or may not be bad just because you recently had one fail. :BlahBlah:

I've got lots of motors with yellow coils on them that still fire.....:biggrin2:

I am truly sorry for suggesting such a far out theory as a faulty ignition coil on a 40+ year old engine. I will refrain from posting in the future so as not to offend. And I have purchased from every sponsor except rfhoutz.

J-Mech 08-03-2016 12:14 AM

It could also be the ignition switch... it's probably 40 years old too..... :beatdeadhorse:

Bet the wiring is original also. Maybe he should rewire it?

Come on.... at least try and help the guy. Don't just guess bad parts. That's not helpful at all.

You didn't offend me. Not at all..... but I get irritated when people just guess at problems because: One time I had a similar issue and "XYZ" was the culprit, so that must be the case with your machine. Or "Try replacing these parts in this order." Anyone can guess.... but most people can guess just as well on their own.

What does purchasing from all the sponsors have anything to do with it? We don't get commission from them on sales on here.
