Please Help Me Save My Cub!

Although the engine didn't abruptly stop turning, whenever I hear of an engine that won't start but does have a spark and is getting fuel (and I'm assuming there is compression), I suspect ignition timing. Add checking the flywheel key to the list.

X2! When I have plenty of gas,spark and it won't run,that's where I start.

I'm definitely getting fuel into the carb and with the air filter off I can see fuel getting to the valve. It'll run by putting fuel in the cylinder but it's really sluggish, puffs black smoke, and rough. Makes me think timing. I will admit that it doesn't mean it's not getting enough fuel. Don't kill me for this but I did try a quick shot of starting fluid a couple times and no dice.

I was wondering this evening if the acr could be stuck on. I believe you can check it through the cam cover but I'm not sure what to look for. If it is that is the fix a teardown?

Black smoke indicates rich but why is it chugging when you prime it through the plug hole but not through the carb??

Timing could be a problem, best to go back and double check that.

I don't know if the ACR can stick on, usually they just don't work and the engine is hard to crank. HOWEVER, your exhaust valve, which the ACR holds slightly open when starting could be sticking open, thus not much compression, so it could act like not enough fuel. Pulling the head and watching the valve action as you turn the engine by hand is how you would know.
