Been my experience when you disturb the "O" rings on a unit, they don't always reseal and leak, but not always, just so you know.:bigthink:

Has anyone used the Steiner steering valve seal kit? I noticed a year or 2 ago that it is the cheapest kit on the market at $55 (part #21-SK000011). I know that the Parker kit SK000097 was used on my 1572 by the po and it worked fine.

I just Googled the JD part number and this is pretty cheap too and probably cheaper in the long run with free shipping.

I think you will need to pull the new one apart and install the top plate because it has the tube for the column attached to it and use the input shaft from the original one. The Steiner's that I have mount the box under the dash and use a very short input shaft.

Good luck and get some pictures for us.:beerchug:

New one from Steiner is $500. Everything else is new on the tractor. I have 3 diesel supers I can use the rebuilt one on or put it in my 982. Yes you have to change the top column and steering shaft. I have a column the someone took apart and lost pices in. So I'm using the parts from that one to put on the new one.

Sounds great 982d. We're here to help and weren't trying to discourage you. The hardest part of the job is getting the column out of the tractor, after that they're easy to rebuild. Post some pics of your build please.
