COINMAN66 I am not the expert here but yes you will have spark as points open and close with key on and no you do not have to push or pull any thing just rotate engine [with key off ] till points gap is greatest adjust to 0.20 this is close enough that engine will run unless you have other problems. Gapping the points is not how we set them. We :beatdeadhorse: about this all the time. We are trying to avoid telling people to gap points. That is why we have all the info on how to set timing.

You have bigger problems than paint on the head. More than likely you are running too lean, and if you didn't follow the directions given in this thread on how to time the engine, then your timing is off. Did you or did you not set the timing? Have you tuned your carb? And I don't mean set it to the starting point that the book gives..... did you TUNE it?
