Ok,good news bad news I took out the drive shaft again popped off the cover on the charge pump and flipped it.Good news the rear wheels now spin and seem to work as they should but it's still jacked up with the wheels off the ground.Bad news is I still seem to have no power steering and the lift does not work either.Could it still be air bound? any ideas I only had about an hour to mess with it tonight and hope to have more time tomorrow.Thanks for the help so far and I hope to get it all working .It's hard to work on something you have no idea what has been messed with before.

Bob, it could be air. How long did you let it run?

If the drive is working, the pump is not air locked. Air in the steering and lift system will self purge when you use it. How much have you worked the hydraulic lever and tried to steer it? Did you change the fluid and filter?

Another thing to check is line routing. Seen more than once someone hooked up the lines incorrectly.

I admit I did not run it very long so could be just needs more time.I have replaced the filter with one from Cub Cadet and new fluid .When you said J-Mech about the lines being run wrong it rang a bell.I myself switched two on an 1872 and caused the same symptoms.Thanks again all and I will check everything carefully tomorrow.

Your charge pump is 180 off, flat side goes to the right side of the tractor. You owe me. :beerchug:

Sam Mac,I just flipped the charge pump and that gained me the drive at the wheels but so far no power steering and no lift.It was Shrewcub called it first then I searched the subject and found the post by you with that same pic.Everyone was a big help so far and I will get back to it tomorrow and hope to get it all up and running.

Lift and PS should work now. I'm thinking maybe a bad pressure relief valve or some of the lines may be crossed up front. Lines at the pump look correct. You may need to get a set of gauges and do some trouble shooting per the manual.

I really hope it is a crossed line someplace like I wrote in an earlier post I have done it myself but right at the pump but hose are right.I don't own pressure gauges good excuse to buy more tools.I do have 2 or three pumps and could switch out a relief valve .I have zero experience inside the hydro unit so I have been studying the parts diagram.
