I am missing the hitch bracket. Take a look at the pictures:

The hitch is narrower than the tiller mount: http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps41ceb9c7.jpg Where does the handle attach? Can you post a close-up picture jboelens? http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps3ddb6a85.jpg Finally the #2 tiller. It looks like everything I need is there, no? http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps523a3932.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps080d03dc.jpg |
Do you have the gearbox? You don't have to have that bracket. I have 3 tractors that have the tiller gearbox on the rear and none of them have it. All you are missing that I am seeing is the lift straps and the bar sticking out of the rear lift.

Back of one of mine. The lift bar is not installed in this one in this pic.

I have seen pics on here of some peoples tractors that do have them and some that don't. I have a 149 that was bought from the dealer with the tiller and it did not have the U bracket. It is not a must is what I'm saying. All you need is a longer lift rod to clear the gearbox mount and the lift straps. I'm not sure if the brinly adapter will clear though. I have my brinly on my 100 with no gearbox. The sleeve hitch that is on my 1650 with the gearbox is homemade and longer than the brinly.

Can someone tell me what the width of the bracket I need is?

I am currently not where one is, so I can't measure one. The inner bracket will be just enough narrower than your sleeve hitch adapter that it will slide between the legs of said adapter without binding.
With all due respect, don't make this seem harder than it really is, the guys in the above posts have all given you some very good ideas. I feel quite confident that if you put an ad in the wanted section here someone will sell you one pretty cheap. Unless you already have a fixture made up to bend them in, they really aren't worth the aggravation of making one. I personally would not use the rear blade without the "U" bracket. The sleeve hitch adapter that you have will most likely not work with the tiller gearbox mount installed, HOWEVER you do not need the "U" bracket to check to see if your sleeve hitch adapter will work with the tiller mount installed. Take the sleeve hitch adapter off of the blade and try to pin it to the tiller mount, you will probably find that it will pin on in a very high raised position and in a very low position but will not move from high to low because it will hit the tiller bracket. So you really have three options. Remove and replace the tiller bracket every time you want to change from one attachment to another (this will probably require draining the rear end and replacing the cover gasket and replacing the fluid each time (not a very good option in my opinion)) and you will still need the narrow "U" shaped part. OR you can get a custom made sleeve hitch adapter, with legs that are long enough to clear the tiller mounting bracket (this will probably also require a longer lift pin and the "U" shaped part). OR you can get a pair of adapters that will make the sleeve hitch adapter longer (so it will clear the tiller mounting bracket) (this will probably also require a longer lift pin and the "U" shaped part). This ain't rocket surgery, that really is all there is! My best advice is to STOP LOOKING AT THIS THING AND GO DO SOME HANDS ON WORK. Go take that sleeve hitch adapter off of the blade and try to pin it on the tiller bracket, so that you have first hand knowledge of what you need to do to make this thing work. |
I must be missing the boat, why not mount the lower hitch bracket to the tiller gearbox itself?seems like all you would need is a longer pin.
