I agree, BUY IT! Try to salvage the onan but if you can't oh well. My neighbor has a 982 that he bought with a blown motor and he put a brand new onan in it hes had it for years and it has less than 100 hours on it he lets me drive it around every now and then and it has a beautiful sound and is very powerful.

I guess I'm not keeping up on all the motor options available. Can someone give me a little more info on the China V Twin Diesels ?

Brand name, Who sells them ?

thanks

Got the 982 home. Deal is, I try to get it running and pay for it if I like it, otherwise I take it back, can't beat an offer like that. It has had carb trouble in the past, that is all we know. The engine was over-full of something---I think the carb flooded and got gas in the oil. I'll be picking up a oil filter, spark plugs, fuel lines and filter soon so I can see how it sounds. I spun it over enough to hear it hit on some gas I poured in the carb. Hopefully it hasn't been run with gas in the oil.

I notice this one does not have turning brakes, was that an option or am I missing a bunch of parts?

Congratulations on acquiring a 982!!! Now, to the more serious issue, namely, :WWP::TTWWP: :biggrin2: If you decide to buy it and the engine is not salvageable, then you can part the engine to help fund the purchase of the new engine!! If you decide to not buy it, then send it my way so that I can!

I hope I can get this one running fairly cheaply. I want it for mowing some of the rougher areas around the farm sheds. We currently use a Farmall Cub for that, it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to HP. My 2072 is too pampered for hazardous duty (anything but a lawn). Actually the 2072 is set-up for the majority of the deck weight to ride on the 4 casters which limits where you can go without having to raise the deck to stop it from spinning--I know put on some ag tires and wheel weights. This one has the older style Haban with no front gage wheels which should add more weight to the tractor. If not I'll just put a weight box on the 3pt hitch!

I'll try to get a couple pics this coming weekend. Right now it's nothing pretty to look at with all the sheet metal removed and one flat tire. But as with all Cadets, it's just a diamond in need of polishing.

Congrats on the 982! I believe the turning brakes were an option.

Congrats on the 982. Turning brakes, rear pto, cat 0 lift, front ports and the ultra rare power steering were all options. Check the fuel pump for problems too, it could have flooded the case. A rebuild kit is $97 for the carb and a complete new carb is $159.
Onan B48G's are awesome motors when they run well but expensive to repair. I think you will need to pull the intake manifold to completely remove the carb and while you have it off check it (intake manifold) for any leaks. They are in 2 pieces that uses an rtv type sealant to seal the two together and held in place with rivets.
Good luck and keep us posted.....and we need some pics of that thing!
