Here is my old stock recoil, I might put it in the for sale section.
Your Original should have the starter cup already on it, even the electric starts had them. Here's a link to what they should look like.

hey Cory. Here's a couple shots of my recoil. as you can see it's identical to Bill682. the cup is still on the engine which is buried. you can see a picture of it on this site if you look up that engine. not sure myself how to get there again.

that cup and screen on ebay is a bit pricey, imo, but is the correct type. the inside of it gets wore out real fast if it's not lined up correctly. i've been experimenting with different pawls/dogs for the engaging part, due to the fact mine does not properly work. that's been on the back burner for a while now since i replaced the engine. you sure did a bangup job on that snow removal. great pics. looks like you had a good time.

Thank you for the pictures, I agree that is pricey, I have the cup on the engine, my engine was originally a pull start but somewhere over the years it got converted. I was hoping to convert it back, but I don't have the $ to spend on one of these recoil starters; being a college student. And it certainly was a good time plowing all that snow, it was the most I have ever seen in my lifetime. I was impressed by my cubs, how well they worked. :beerchug:

ricks, if you need a new coil there is a place in Chicago that should have them,

I got mine from them years ago, just tell them what you need and they will know.
I also put an electronic ignition module on mine, it eliminates the points and condenser. Starts much easier.

i think i might just try that. for years i struggled with winding the rope around the pulley trying to start that thing. it used to run like it was brand new right around ten yrs ago.
