It will still work, you will have put in a switch, and change the wireing a little. MANY people have done this.

I believe I finally found the problem with my 149-20 minutes into a run, it would sputter like it was running out of fuel for a minute or two and then run mostly normal the rest of the run. I looked at the fuel delivery, the carb, the ignition.

I believe my battery was causing the whole sputtering deal about 20 minutes into a run. I do not know if I had an occasional short in the battery that limited the battery voltage and as a result pulled hard on the generator or what. All I know is that I change the battery and the issue has gone away for the two mowings since I replaced the battery. :)
