Think you'll be glad you did that. I used to own a Harley Night Rod. Worst suspension for a bike I've ever owned. Had Penske build me a set of double adjustable coil overs for the rear and they replaced the cartridges in the forks with an AK-20 Axxion Cartridge Kit from Traxxion Dynamics.

Yup, you know what it's all about. Harley doesn't have to update, people keep buying, relegating themselves to substandard performance.

Once a year I take a big ride in the mountains of north eastern US. This year it was Allegheny Mtns of NY and PA, awesome territory for a ride, last year it was NH, VT and NY. I ride with 2 Beamers, 2 Ducatis, 3 Yams and a Honda and while I am not expecting the impossible of keeping up (I am the only one on a bagger for god's sake), I am far far behind. I catch up on straights. Riding the twistys with not so great road conditions at speed can literally lift me off the seat and the wheel off the ground on bumpy curves, causing sphincter ache after awhile. While the True Trak stabilizer I installed 5 years ago or so helped immensely, it just wasn't enough.

These Ohlins, like the Traxxions literally transform a crappy performer into something fun and predictable...which is everything. Best money spent.

Some guys blow their $ on engine mods, bumping that Harley tractor engine into a faster tractor engine at huge cost...but are left with a crappy riding bike and a 100 hp air cooled tractor engine.

For anyone that rides a bagger off the superslab....suspension needs upgrading.

I have a story you hear all the time, but this actually happened to me. When I was in my early 20's, I drove a truck for a small company. I was making a delivery and I had one of my black Harley shirts on when a guy walked up to me and said, you ride Harleys, which I replied I did. He went on to say his Father had one he wanted for sale. What the kicker was, this guy looked like he was in his 60's. I got his info and made plans to visit him the next Saturday.
Well, Saturday I pulled into the address, and it was a huge farm. The Father met me and said the Bike is in the barn. We then went to the barn and he said it's over there under that canvas. I had to crawl over a ton of farm equipment to get to it, then raised the canvas and there it was. A 100% original Pan Head Dresser. I asked what year is it, 1958. He then said are you gonna make one of them choppers and I quickly said no. I asked if I could get it out and see if it would run which I did. It took a while, but she started. I then asked if I could take it down the road for a quick ride which he agreed. Well, I got about a mile away from the farm and it ran out of gas. About a hour later the farmer came with a gas can and said he thought I had ran out of gas. We went back to the farm and I said I will give you 1800.00. He had told me 2000.00. He then walked me to the door of the barn, and said, look out there. It's all mine and paid for. All you could see for a half mile was rolling hills dotted with cattle. I quickly said, I'm not trying to talk you down, it's all I have. He said to come back when I had it all, and assured me he wouldn't sell it. 2 weeks later I had the 2000.00 and handed it to him. He then handed me 200.00 back and grinned and said you will need a new battery. I rode that bike for 15 years and sold it. I dream of that bike till this day.

Did a little local riding today. 1st pic is about 1/2 way down my driveway, 2nd pic is at a place along the New River and the 3rd is a road called Radio Tower Rd in Galax. Weather was perfect for riding, 78 degrees. I'm Lovin It.

Nov 5 and 23*C... had to get out for a ride ;)

Went out and about a week ago and saw a junk yard. Stopped and told the guy if I could rummage through all of it, he seemed alright with it. There was some old farm iron and ancient cars and a whole bunch o treasures. He was way high on the farm and old car stuff. But... way back in an old shed I could see the tires peeking out. We asked him and he said 25 bucks and it's your bike. He said it used to be a racer. (?) date reads 12-72 Chaparral 100. Just got it running and driving today. My dad got us kids in the dirt bikes when we were younger, and when we started buying old lawn tractors, the motorcycles went away. Now we have 2 hobbys to keep up with...... and pay for:HeeHee: if anyone knows anything about this old bike. I would greatly appreciate some help,

Been looking for another...... I don't know why. I still have to pull the motor out of the one I have and change the case. That may or may not happen this year. Oh well. It lasted this long.
