Since you've got it out and drained anyway, I'd change the axle tube gaskets, axle seals, and brake puck O-ring to ensure you won't have any issues with them later on.

That was my thought Matt. What's a few more $'s and a little more time?
At least it will be good for another 47 years, right?

Sounds like a plan to get it ready for the next generation!

But it will live it's life out in the city. I'm pretty sure it has a country state of mind, but everything changes.
I ordered the gaskets and seals today, so hopefully next week we can get all the transaxle wrapped up and start getting things back together.
When I read about everyone's projects it seems like everything happens so fast, I know better, but at times it seems like it's taking forever, even though it's not been that long.:BlahBlah:

Todd,
Getting parts was one of my biggest problems. Your doing great the seals will be here befor you know it and the read will be coming back together.
Hummm? I never thought about seals in the rear of the 147. May have missed something there?
Regards,
Chris

Got some of the transaxle apart today. Wow, there was some gunk in the left side of the axle housing. (see the screwdriver) And it seems the axle seal on the right was dry rotted.
Is the bearing inside the rear supposed to turn freely, the one the axle rides on?
Another question, how do I get the seals out?
On to the front of the trans. next.

Todd,
Nice pictures. I may need those someday. If I ever get into one of the std shift cubs.
Can you pop the seals out with a screw driver? The old ones are going in the trash so you don't have to worry about damage on them right????
Nice gunk!
Regards,
Chris

Those brass bushings with the holes in them look like they are from an Original tranny.Just about all the later gear drives have roller bearings in there.Never seen that before.I have a seal puller that removes them.works great, cheep too.

I think the first one to have roller bearings instead of bronze bushings was the 123. I know for sure that the 70/100 have bronze bushings.
