Default How much disc is too much?

How large and heavy of a disc can a 1541 handle without overworking the tractor? Not that it helps, but it has turf tires and is not weighted.

Is something this size out of the question? http://carbondale.craigslist.org/grd/4624128525.html I'm guessing it's a no-go

Um. NO. LOL! I'm sorry.......

No, uh..... it can pull a Brinly tandem disk. Which is not even as wide as the tractor. Unless you get the 3pt version. In which you would have to add the 3pt. They don't make a disk to fit that tractor. Unless you go with a small pull type meant for an ATV like Northern Tool sells. But, they aren't really heavy enough to do anything.

Besides. Your gonna need lugs, and weight. And a LOT of it to pull ground engaging equipment of any kind.

Thanks, I was thinking it was more meant for the tractor in the background. I've been looking at this disc or a cheaper used one like it http://www.homedepot.com/p/Agri-Fab-...0266/202638977 but I don't want to go too small or too light and end up with useless equipment.

Lucky for me my 1541 came with a 3 point hitch and a 3-point to sleeve hitch adapter. It also came with a Brinly plow and cultivator.

I'm not sure what it's called or if it even has a name, but here is the adapter from the 3 point to the sleeve hitch

If you want a disk.... you need to find one of these:

Or build one like this:

Problem is, your tractor is only 15HP, and a hydro....... so, your limited. Really need either a super, or a big gear drive. Yes, the hydro will probably pull it, but your not going to be cutting ground with it. You can with the second one, I saw a vid of him disking sod with it. But he had a bigger tractor, and weights, and lugs.....

I would guess that as soon as you raised the lift on your tractor, the tractor front wheels will come up and that disc would stay right where it is.

Even if you could drag it, I doubt you could make a turn unless you went into the next county.

Mike,
Sam Mac's 'bota couldn't pull that disk. A TC45D New Holland probably couldn't either. It would be about right for a IH: 340, 404, 454, Massey 35, Ford 8 maybe 9N. It's WAAAAY too big. My Lo-Boy wouldn't pick it up, let alone pull it.

So, what did you say that I didn't say?

My Kubota would pull it just fine if Sam needs a tow next time he tries to disc.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
