Stuck flywheel, K301
I'm trying to disassemble a K301 for rebuild. The flywheel won't come off. I'm using a puller, which I've torqued to about 300 ft lbs. I've heated the flywheel with an oxy/acet torch 'til it was smokin' hot. there is some silver colored sealant or RTV on the shaft where the flywheel mates to it, so it look like it's glued to the crankshaft. I've tapped the flywheel with a hammer as well as smacked the puller center bolt.
Any other ideas? How do you hold the flywheel in order to put a persuader on the wrench to get more leverage? I'm expecting the grade 8, 5/16 inch puller bolts to come out of the flywheel like a shot. If all else fails, what's the destructive method to remove the flywheel?

I am using an impact wrench. Two different wrenches. That's how I'm getting the 300ft/lbs one is an air impact wrench the other is my Dewalt 18V 1/2 inch impact wrench. The dewalt is rated at 300 ft/lb, not sure about the air unit. Maxed them both out.
I've removed at least a dozen flywheels before. this one is a problem.

Hit the puller bolt (center bolt on the puller that is against the crank) HARDER!
I mean hit it HARD! If your not using at least a 3lb hammer, it isn't big enough. It will come off. |

Had a flywheel on an old outboard do the same thing as your Kohler. Maxed out my impact, whacked the puller HARD with a good hammer, and nothing. Heated it, still nothing. So - - I sprayed the b$$%^&d with PB Blaster and let it sit with tension on it. Every time I had a chance over the next couple of days I impacted and hit it again. Third day I came out to the shop after work and the flywheel and puller were sitting loose on the crank. It popped sometime during the night. Sooner or later it WILL come off.

X2. Have done that a few times with pitman arms when I did jeep lifts on the side. One let loose in the middle of the night in my garage and scared the day lights out of everyone but yes, that's a good method of all else fails.

OK, I've got an engineer's hammer, I'll give it a couple healthy whacks.
With the way the PO put what looks like RTV on the shaft, I don't think PB or any other penetrant will do any good.

Tighten that puller down good and tight. Put some pb blaster or kroil oil or n it and leave it overnight. Then try with the impact or the bfh tomorrow.

You guys are missing the comment that the flywheel is glued to the crankshaft with RTV. There is no way PB or Kroil is going to soak in and help.
