I'm also interested in re-powering a tired 782 with a CH18
I bought an 1864 for $50 with a good running CH 18. The rest of the tractor was junk, so I parted it out. I kept the engine, mounting plate, muffler, PTO, and drive shaft. My question is what is needed to adapt the 1864 driveshaft to the 782?

Well it took a while... mostly on my part.. but I finally pulled the trigger on the Command engines for my 782 repower..
Picked them both up at Fastenal earlier in the week.. I wound up getting a complete low hour CH18 from an 1864.. It was a replacement engine about 10 years ago and only has 150 hours on it.. I also grabbed the complete driveshaft and fan assy.. and I already got Jeff to build the custom coupler to mate the 1864 shaft to the 782 pump.. The guy made me a heck of a deal on the high hour CH20 also.. no additional shipping.. he was able to put both on a single pallet.. I'll overhaul the CH20 at a later date and use it in another project.. Didn't need both engines but they both have the specific cub cadet mufflers, heat shields, mounting plates and PTO's... This is the second time I have used Fastenal and they are awesome.. very reasonable and got the engines in 7 days from 800 miles away.. I'll post pictures tomorrow... forgot to download them before I left work Hope to start on my dream 782 soon!

That's great Jay! Be sure to post pictures when you get a chance. Fastenal is a great deal. I've used them on several different items. It ends up being right around $125 - $150 for standard dimension pallet, no matter what the weight or distance. Good deal in my book and the guys at my local Fastenal are great to deal with.

Good deal, i new you should get both. Didn't know they were coming from the same seller. Those things are jetted so lean they need a bit of choke. Just ask Don V. I've got an 18 just like it. I've been threw the carb and removed the stop, just need to reset the governor to make it a 20. Mike

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
