What I found out by installing bolts after paint is you almost have to use washers even where there weren't any, or you'll rip the paint. You can try to be extra careful, but it's still a long shot to not do some damage...
I ended up flattening out lock washers to put under the visible heads. If you go with the painted hardware, installation without washers still risks messing up the paint.

Thanks for the input and advise on the nuts & bolts. After reading your epic journey on your "O" from cover to cover, the end result was awesomely outstanding. Congratulations!!!
Your finished pics showed me that the Zinc & Clear plated finish looks pretty good. I now think that I will proceed in the same fashion. I also noticed that my air brush idea will work out for some of the smaller parts that I will have to paint. All of the airlines in my shop have inline regulators and oilers, so I will simply have to remove one of the oilers. Thanks for the input. Mike |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
