Default My other IH's

Had a member wanting to see more of my old IH's.

My 1973 IH 1210 Travelette. I has an IH 392 gas motor with a IH T34 5speed OD manual trans. It also has GM TBI fuel injection so starts and runs evertime no more carb. It has a NP205. I swapped in a GM Dana 60 front and a 14 bolt rear with Detroit locker. Its on 35's with a 6'' GM lift. Paint isn't to bad for what it is not a show truck I use it! Also has factory A/C that works!

Oh and for the northern guys. We get snow like 1-2 times a year and there is no salt save for on free way over passes and that is rare. So no worries on rust from salt down here so I drive it in the snow!!

Right now I tore into the front clip to redo the radiator and powder coat the inner fenders and core support. So its getting put back together.

My 1973 Scout II currently sitting on my rotisserie getting restored. I had a 6.0L LS in it with a 4L80e. But had rust issues so its getting rebuilt. Looking at going with the Gen V LT based 5.3L or 6.2L and 8L90 trans...

Ok, that is really cool!

So, a few questions:
How did you put the GM TBI on the intake for the IH 392? I've been through some IH V8's and parts (at least were) not all that available for change overs. Did it bolt up? Or did you have to adapt?

Interestingly enough, people seem to think that the T34 was an IH built trans, when it's actually a Borg Warner. What clutch are you running?

What axle ratio's?

Does you NP205 have the choice of 2wd/4wd in both high and low range? Or is it still a full time drive box?

That's all I can think of for now.....

Its a standard square bore intake. You can get adapters for square to GM TBI. Then bolt on TBI. GM actually made a adapter for spread bores as they had left over carb intakes for 454's when they swapped over to TBI on them so they made a factory adapter.

Then you have to modify the distributor for the magnetic pickup, add a electric fuel pump. And burn a chip for it.

The SV (304,345,392) Parts are pretty common for the motors as IH used them in the S line up threw the 80's so lots of parts for them. Pickup truck production ended in 1975 and Scout II's in 1980.

Actually NO. The 5 speed originally were built by Fuller in the 60's. IH acquired the design, tooling, etc. for the 5 speed from Fuller and moved the manufacturing to Fort Wayne, IN. The 5 speed went thru several design changes in the 20 or so years it was built by IH various ratio combos etc. The company also made its own drive axles for some applications which many mistake them for eatons when they are infact IH built. The IH transmission and axle business was sold to Dana / Spicer in the mid '80's. Dana continued to build the 5 speed for IH / Navistar trucks until the early '90's when it was discontinued.

IH did use B/W trans, but the 5 speeds were in house built.

It has a 12'' mechanical clutch.

It has 4.56 gears. The NP 205 is a divorced unit and is a single stick so high and low range. It was never used as a full time transfer case by IH. IH had there own chain drive single speed transfer case used in the trucks and Scouts.

To not clutter up the other thread.
Here is my VW. The boat I was just moving around never took it fishing in the bug.

I was looking for a Jetta and got a smoking deal on the bug had 125k miles on it when I got it. Its got almost 300k miles on it now. I went diesel as MPG is mid 40's stock. With mods I get an honest 48 and can get 50 plus with smart driving. Also I ran Jet A in it for 3-4 years when I worked out the local airport. We would sump aircraft and couldn't reuse the fuel so they had to pay to get rid of it so... I started running it in my car. Worked great added a qt of 2 stroke and some Power Service. Cost $4 to fill up! I only got 45mpg with Jet A has it has less BTU content then Diesel hence the MPG gap.

This is an old picture dirty carpet and all. The inside is the deluxe style as well as the outside with the deluxe trim. The buckets and console are not "stock". Originally it had a bench front and back is a bench as well. The seats are out of a travelall (the surburn for IH). Much debate has been waged over the use of buckets in travelette's. I have never seen any high back buckets in a travelette seen a few low backs. But with IH you never know as they would literally build what ever you wanted. And if IH wouldn't most dealers would modify it to what you wanted. The line setting ticket with what came on the truck was still tapped to the back of the glove box. The truck was originally a 2wd and had a chysler sourced 727 auto with an IH bellhouse face. The PO made it a 4x4 and swapped in the T34.

Pictures of motor before I started the detail work.

The T34 is not a really good trans ratio wise. As IH made the 4th the OD and made the old 5th the direct 4th. So shifting 3-4 you get a huge RPM drop that sucks while towing heavy and in large hills. The shift pattern is unique because of its
1-2-5
R-3-4

But it works great OD wise when just cursing around with the .82 OD. The other two 5 speeds used in the trucks were the T35 and T36 which both were direct but had different gear ratio setups. These transmissions were also used in the loadstars to a certain GVW then they used clarks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
