painting tips and help
I am going to use IH brand paint for my 1650. I've read a lot of 8-4-1 ratio and even 4-2-1. Im gonna be using a 23 gal compressor. I want to use Napa brand reducer and hardner if possible. I have a air gun. I see some write about spraying one coat, waiting 10-15 minutes then spraying another coat. Is there anything I am missing?
Thanks, Nate |

Compatibility?
Pour a small amount of the ih paint into a separate container and make sure it mixes and stays mixed with the napa brand reducer

Two or three coats
I would recommend doing one coat first, a light coat also called a tack coat, if u try to cover it in one you are going to run it for sure

Mix very well and take your time and do many light coats or it will run. 10 to 15 minutes inbetween coats i do 4-1-1 paint- thinner - hardne. Works for me

like what was said. lots of light coats. I call the first one a dust coat. (tack coat) if your metal is cold it will take a lot longer between coats. the metal should be 65deg. or warmer. if its cold in your shop the flash time will take up to an hour , not 15min.
if you start getting runs , just stop! once dry, wet sand the runs off with 600 then the hole tractor with 1000 grit. then start painting again.

The number for the Napa reducer is CR733 at my Napa a qt is 15.00. I don't use mixing cups and things. I just eye ball it. You want it alittle thicker than water.

Yes, it is recommended. At the end of your hose farthest away from the compressor. Cheap insurance. As mentioned tackiness can vary depending on weather conditions. Just feel it with a touch of your finger I'm NO pro but I took my time (1st. Time) but one day it was tacky in 20 min. & then one day it took 45 min.. You tube is a great source to find out about spray painting, setting up your gun etc.. Look up cub cadet restoration

I used a couple pieces of junk metal & cardboard to get the feel of it, then found out what distance was best.
If I could do it than anyone can. NIK,

if you were close, Id paint it or help to show you how to do it.
asking questions is good but you really only can learn by doing it. painting is a hands on tough trade. all brands spray diffrent , all guns spray diffrent, and so on.....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
