PTO question
The pto coil on the 1250 melted. It was an Oguna model. I found a rebuilt unit on ebay and bought it. It is black. I believe a warner model. I installed it and seemed to have problems adjusting the brake. I ran it to try it and it seems to work good. When it ran the pto pulled back against the coil and seemed to seat itself. When i turned it off it kept spinning. I found that there was now about 1/4 to 5/16 gap between the front of the pulley and the crank bolt. Am i missing a shim or something and where should that shim be located? Or wondering if i can put a few washers to take up the room on the crank shaft to tighten up the pto because with the gap it in i can't set the brake properly. Just want to make sure i get it in the right position so i don't damage the pto and make sure the pulley is in the right position. Thanks.

You need spacer #7 and the correct length bolt and the washer.

confused!
I got the spacer that the diagram calls for but it seems too long. It sticks out past the end of the crank shaft. I put it on anyway. Started the tractor. Ran for about 30 seconds started to smell burning and smoke started coming out of the pto. Shut it off. I don't even have the brake tight at all. I'm stumped. What am i doing wrong? Can i even put a Warner pto on a machine that had an Igura pto on it? Like somethings too tight. Frustrated, big time. Any advice? Or do i need to get a different pto? Already spent more money on this thing than i wanted.

thanks for the help
I tried to open the manual and it said it is forbidden. I was given instructions with the new pto. Still not sure what I'm doing wrong. It mentioned shims. But i don't have any and the unit came assembled so not sure where they would go.

I bought a rebuilt warner pto to replace the Ogura that the coil melted on. And it does seem to work. If i turn the key on and turn the pto on it will lock and i can turn the crank. If i turn the pto off then i can free spin the pulley, so it is turning on and off. Once i put the spacer and tightened the bolt on the crank shaft and run the engine thats when i get the burning smell and smoke no matter if the pto's on or off. Different Question: if i am able to set the brake correctly will the pulley continue to turn without the belt tightened on it and the pto off? Or should the pulley remain stationary with the pto off always? Did i screw up by buying another pto? Bought it off ebay. Wasn't much of a price difference between a new field coil for the Ogura and the entirely rebuilt warner. This is my first cub cadet and i bought it not running so unsure of exactly what I'm doing, but do know it shouldn't be doing what it's doing. If i have time may pull the pto off to see what i can see.

And to answer your question yes i can turn the crank shaft with the bolt with the engine off and the key removed. I just don't get what's wrong. It's not that complicated. Like i said going to take it back off when i have some time and go from there. Thanks.
