Jeff, do you care to say what you are using for material? Reason I ask is that I have often thought what spindles are made of. I mean Haban spindles are getting close to spindles on grooming mowers.
We have an really old Lilliston 7'6" 3pt mower with big beefy spindles. Quite a bit of welding for the blade mount. Just wondering if its a tool steel that has to be drawn back/annealed after welding and how much machining takes place after welding. You'll have to forgive my ramblings, been on a run of parts that had to be straightened at 30 tons after welding so we could finish machine them--Got them within .010" out of the press.

It's 1060 but any welding that I do will be in areas where the hardened material is cut away.
I will be using TIG with 80 series filler wire. |

Looks awesome Jeff! They only advice that I can give here is that the post should read "Haban 325 and 374"....not 375. I know, I'm being a smart azz.

( pointing up ) I will beat that price with the expensive spindles. I want to talk with the welding engineer at work before welding to make sure I don't waste very expensive material.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I got some material at work today, 1-1/2" diameter 4130 alloy steel. This is what I'll make the first couple sets out of. |
Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
