I cut it, then get rid of the stalks, so the insects and disease are removed.

I leave mine until spring, they dry up nice all winter and burn like a bastard come spring cleanup. Gives birds a nice place to play in and hide in in the winter.
As for disease, asparagus is pretty tough and there aren't many problems up here anyway. |

I have always wondered this also...
We have always left ours alone till spring. The tops trap a lot of snow and provide moisture come thaw time in the spring plus provide cover for wildlife. Come early spring, after snow melt and it dries up some, I usually till the plot about 1" deep, way before the shoots start to emerge, and treat w/preen'n'green to prevent weed emergence. We usually have way more than we can use and share w/family and friends. |

Growing up in an area of farms that raised it commercially to be frozen or canned.....................
The farmers always left it to grow after the harvest period. And did nothing until after the spring thaw. Then they would bush hog the field before anything started to sprout. |

I have also been told by some oldtimers that you can pour out your bucket from making ice cream on asparagus. Apparently the salt doesn't hurt the plants, just kills the weeds. Supposedly the asparagus likes the salt. I just haven't been brave enough to try it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
