Reminds me when I was in Maine 2 years ago and the owner had them come in to do his 80 acres, most was select cutting, still plenty of trees left.
He was paid at the end of the job.
Are they sending a delimber in also?

I've been on the board of directors at one of our local gun clubs over the last 3 years. We have a forester that does a 10 year plan for our 180+ acre property. They harvest timber for sawn lumber and firewood. We get virtually nothing for the material,..... except for a HUGE reduction in our local real estate tax.

From what I was told, the wood is 75% poplar,,,
poplar has very few low branches, so, it is possible they will simply cut off the top of the tree and leave it behind.

My plot of wood is amazingly high,,the natural shading of the canopy eliminated most low branches.

you sold it before it was cut? around here it gets cut down, the the log buyer grades them and makes a check out to the owner and the logger. usually around a 50/50 split. there's no way to tell what they're worth until they're on the ground.

This is the way it is done here but you can have it estimated before it is cut.

I know nothing about timber as in my part of Illinois we have nothing like that. You have to get down in J-Mech's area of IL or closer to the Miss River before you see anything like that. My boys would have a ball if they had woods like that to play in. We don't have rolling hills like that either as it is flat as a pancake. Thanks for the pictures as I loved the scenery.

The farm here was "timbered" back in 91. Nothing under 10-12" could be cut. All the Poplar was kept separate and sent to a veneer mill--the extra cash was split. A price other than the extra for the veneer was agreed upon in the contract before they brought in the first equipment. Contract required them to push all debris out of the fields and back into the woods. Had some Poplar logs over 40" at the base. Good luck and hope you don't sleep late, those boys tend to crank up before 7AM and you can hear those saws on the harvesters a 1/2 mile away.

You know,, it is funny,,,
when that harvester is running on someone else's property,, the noise is irritating,,

when it is running on my place,, it has the gentile ring of a cash register,,



Because of the snow due on Sunday, the owner stopped by the house, and asked what time was too early to call to check the weather,,
I told him if it meant getting another day of harvest done,, call at ANYTIME!!
