Default Disassembly

Thanks everyone. I removed the battery, fuel tank, and brackets today. I'm going to get carb cleaner, paint, and everything I need Thursday. I decided if I have it torn apart this far, I might as well pull the engine and just clean everything up and replace worn parts as I go. I noticed the shaft fan guard is moving around, but the fan is undamaged. Mine does move a little after you move it in drive for a few seconds, but it only moved a foot or so and then stops. I have read a lot. After I get it rolling I'm going to rebuild the steering.

BE CAREFUL!!!

That's how it starts.... then you are tearing every nut and bolt off it, ordering parts you didn't even know it had, let alone knew they were wore out. Then you're rebuilding things that don't need it just because you're there and why not?? LOL. You'll have a new tractor soon! Keep in mind.... spring is coming!! Better hurry and get it done!

"oh while I have this out, might as well do this hard to reach thing." Next thing you know, you've got a pile of parts on the floor and the UPS truck showing up every 3 hours with more.

I need a hydraulic diagram or service manual. Maybe I just need to buy one as I have no plans on parting with this one. Thinking of getting a real heavy duty 70's model for more rugged stuff, and maybe set up for gardening with a 3 pt. Thank you.

Default Drive shaft

This drive shaft is being a total &%$#@ to get out. I have the 4 bolts out, but the pin has been sprayed and it still isn't budging. Now that it is supposed to be 50 degrees today I am going to hit it hard. I almost bought a Simplicity Estatesman with the rear tiller and front blade, but I figured I better get one old tractor done before I get another.

You will probably need to unbolt the engine to get the driveshaft out (or unbolt the rear end). Is that the 4 bolts that you are referring to? You can jack up the front end of the cub (block the rear tires for safety), this should allow the front axle to rock so that you can get a wrench in there to undo the front bolts. Also, in your post you mentioned you were going to "hit it hard". Be careful not to hit it too hard. The pins are a real pain to get out, but you certainly don't want to make anything worse. Mark Hellrung makes sets of pin extractors that work great! LOL--Lots Of Luck to ya on this.
