Default 2006 lt-1050

Hello folks, I am not here to just complain, but I must say, if you have owned a few Cub Cadets such as the 2185 and the LT-1050, and have used them primarily for cutting your lawn and getting up leaves, well, then you know.

I realize that Cub Cadet mowers are not the Cadillac of lawn tractors, but I did expect them to be , oh, mid Chevy range. The 2185 is a good tractor, as long as you do not include this to mean, the Rack and pinion steering which is a cheap mechanism, and is sloppy in no time, Then the mower deck. The 300 series deck, 46", is a mess, a terrible design, belts go like crazy, pulleys also, the belt tensioner is crap. The gauge wheels are a joke. Otherwise the 2185 with direct drive is a pretty good machine. I have one still in use after 21 years with many parts needing replacement, especially on the deck.

The LT-1050 is in my opinion a much better designed tractor in general, the rack and pension steering is beefier, could be a bit stronger, but way better than earlier tractors. My only real nag with this tractor is the direct drive belt, it is a job to replace, turn the tractor nearly 90 degrees on it's side, remove the PTO, wow, this is not good. The 50" mower deck is head and shoulders above the 300 series decks, so this is much improved.

I will have these two yellow mowers for another 10 or more years, so this is all I have, please make them better, and better, and all in the grass cutting world will be ok.

I'm confused by your post are you complaining about a tractor that you have to do maintenance on from time to time. Seems to me 21 years is a good run, and planning to use them for another 10 years. If your complaining, What the hell are you complaining about?
Oh by the way welcome to OCC.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
