Default 18 HP Cub Orginal with 48" deck

I helped out my nephew with his Cub Cadet O that was a 4-H project, he did with his dad. They had already installed the motor and painted it up. I picked up a deck not too long ago so this happened.

Was fairly straight forward and turned out better than I hoped. Mowed my the yard and boy I had a blast. Next item on the list is mufflers
Shake down run!

Few little things left to do but I think this old girl has a bright future.

Well, can't say I've ever seen that modification before, not bad looking. Bet the governors barely opened with that big beast under the hood!
Yeah those straight pipes would have to go. How close is the exhaust to the fuel tank? Wonder if it needs a heat shield or anything to keep from getting hot?

Yeah that fuel tank is my least favorite part of the whole thing. I would be open to any suggestions you guys would have. Would like to keep it clean looking as possible but there just isn't much room with that big ol' motor.

What mufflers are you using? Double pepper pots out the side? Also do you have pics of the finished deck mounting and did you use the rear quick disconnects to mount that are on the deck? Very unique build. There's an O puller by me on c list that has an Onan 18 stuffed under the hood

This is the only good pic right now I will get some more after work. Its basically strap iron bent up on the ends same width as the lift hangers. Only mods to the deck were the front tabs welded on and two holes for that bracket. I made the pulley from parts I got at tractor supply. One side already has a shoulder for a pulley just had to machine another shoulder at the other end. The ratio ends up one to one. Not sure what factory was. I tried fitting the hanger that came with the deck but the Originals sit lower and was no room for it to lift.

I must say that I like it, but I am all about building them to suit your self and not worry what others think. As I said in my build thread you can never have too much power. I installed a 28 hp Command EFI in my 1872 and the extra 10 hp is amazing and the best thing is the fuel economy I can mow all my grass and use 1 1/2 gal less gas to mow it than the old M-18 used. Keep posting your updates.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
