Default QL Model 1100 Drive System Question

Question is about the 90* gear box in the center of the tractor. I assume it must take gear lube, or 30w oil. I've looked all around the gear box and don't see where to add any oil.

It has the same lube in it as a tiller or snowblower gearbox. Basically, corn head grease.

I wouldn't use the no.2 grease, that would be way too thick. But if that's so I had I would probably mix with some oil.
We have to stuff at work that I use for the wheel bearings on semi trailers that is really runny. Jmho

I believe the OP is asking about HOW to lube the right angle gear box that the drive shaft goes into and then belt drives the transmission. According to the chart Roland posted above (bottom line), it is a sealed unit and not serviceable unless you take it apart.

Well, he said he assumed it takes oil, and he did go on to state that he doesn't see how to lube it. I think he probably needs the answer to both.

John, FWIW, if you want to lube that box, it's probably best to disassembly and clean out the old lube, and install new. I too would think that the #2 lithium is too heavy. I know IH and CC have a lube, but the John Deere corn head grease is cheap ($4 a tube), and exactly what that box needs. I would strongly recommend it as an alternative to the IH/CC stuff. That, or mix your own concoction of oil and grease like I have done for the other 90 deg boxes.

Thank you! Excellent information!

The right angle gear box on this 1100 operates, and does not produce noise, heat, or smoke. Just making sure I'm not missing any lubrication points.

Right there in the lube chart Mr. Bedell posted, that gear box calls for or No. 2 multi-purpose lithium grease.

Why re-engineer what IH engineers were paid to do?

Why would you use synthetic oil when something calls for conventional? Why use carbon fiber when something calls for steel? Why use rubber tires when something calls for steel wheels? These machines were made a long time ago...technology has changed. There are better options than what was out there 40+ years ago. I’ll re-engineer anything if it makes it better.

Some of the concoctions mentioned are just absurd.

No engineering proof that any of them are "better".
