Default 105 PTO help

Hi,

I have been told that my manual PTO was on the outs, and toward the end of the season the blades would not stop after disengaging the PTO. I have included a picture of it to show that one of the three flanges is not attached, for lack of a better term.

I am unsure how to rebuild this (this is not something I can do, so a shop would be doing the work). I want to get the parts for the shop just to save a few bucks. What should I be looking for? I've gone on various websites but I'm not sure of all the parts I need. Right now I use it just to mow, but would like to run other implements off it down the road.

Thanks,
Brian

If you are paying a shop to do it, let them do their job and get the parts. When I had my shop, no warranty when you supplied your own parts. If you saved $10 on supplying your own parts, I'd be surprised.

You can rebuild the PTO yourself. It is not that difficult. See link.... PTO

If you feel uncertain or uncomfortable, you can send it to one of your sponsors and they will gladly do it for you. See: http://www.ccspecialties.org/ptocreepers.html

Usually harder to remove from engine than to rebuild,Id clean the 3 set screw holes and start soaking with PB blaster even if your sending tractor and all to shop it will help them out but I would think your looking at several $$$. If your unsure of doing it yourself you also might end up spending $$$ and be in the same situation ! Might be some members here that would rebuild it for you at a nominal fee and shipping if you get if off tractor or a member in your area not to far away ? doesn't hurt to ask ! good luck !

Hey thanks guys for the replies. It's a combination of not having enough time and not knowing enough about them, which is why I prefer to lend it to someone else to do the work. I'm always happy to learn, though. It's how I restored a 67 Land Rover from the ground up back in 2002 despite never doing it before.

I've had to replace quite a bit on this 105 in the 18 months I've owned it but I haven't given up. athomas, its more "fun" spending $$$ on these tractors, right??

TommyK, I live in Old Lyme.

R Bedell, I looked at the ccspecialties website before posting. I wasn't sure what remanufactured PTO would fit mine, or if I even need one. Do I need one or two pressure springs? I have no idea. You're dealing with a newbie here.

Brian

You just tell Charlie it is for a 105, he will know and send you the correct one.

BTW: Generally speaking Cub Cadet used three different types of Mechanical PTO Clutches for their tractors. Just like the Link I referred you to.
(1) NF PTO
(2) WF PTO
(3) WF PTO w/Brake

You have PTO type #1.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
