Just my 2 cents but you are dealing with a Garden tractor not a race car. Considering the power and the hours of use if it's a off a little you'll never know it. Just the fact that it's tight on one side of the revolution of the ring gear should tell you that the manufacturing tolerances on these things from the factory were not all that close.

I do agree with Sam. Set it as close as you can, but no need to be exact, exact. I was trying to help you learn how to do it, and give you some tools. Learn on this, and you can do one in a truck (or whatever).
But seriously, it doesn't turn that fast and isn't terribly critical that it is perfect. If it turns free and has backlash, your contact pattern looked good and centered. As long as it stays that way, your golden! |

I will embarrass myself I had a dial indicator,it happened to be under a rag near the trans on my workbench and when I turned the trans over it kind of got smashed.I also get anal about trying to be as close to specs as I can, so I will know it will last another 40+ years.Again Thank you for all the Teaching even with some of the most simple/stupid questions I ask. I do appreciate it. |

Hello all. I got some time to play again,But now I have A new question.Is it normal for the input gear to be very stiff to turn after replacing the needle bearing with A new one. I have to use something in the pin hole to turn it.
