124 Starter and voltage regulator help
Hi Guys, It's been awhile since I been on. I'm having problems with my 124. It cranks over super slow, like a low battery. I bought a new battery and a new/rebuilt starter-generator. It still does the same thing.
I can't get it to spin over strong enough to start. I checked all grounds 10 times. I'm wondering if it's the voltage regulator?? When I spin the engine over without a plug in, my meter reads 10.1V at the starter. Is this normal? How do I properly check the voltage regulator? Thanks.

I just thought of this and tried it. I disconnected all the wires from the starter and battery. I ran the new battery direct to the starter. Same thing, turns over slow. Is it possible I got a weak rebuilt starter?

what is the voltage at the battery terminals. It is possible you got a bad <new> battery. Wouldn't be the first time.

You might want to check the spring on the automatic compression release. That was what was wrong with my 1650. t had the same exact symptoms.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
