Homemade weight's
I got these weights on a 124 I picked up a while back, they fit inside the wheel and I thought they may be from another brand. I started work on the tractor yesterday and the first thing I did was pull the weights off, it turns out they are homemade but very well made. I got a bit of a surprise when I took the first one off, they are solid lead and weigh 55lbs each. It looks like they were cast using a cast iron skillet, they are tapered on the sides and you can see the pour spouts sticking out the sides. These will look nice painted yellow on the 128 for when it get the loader.

Hmm..., that's an idea. To bad I just gave all my lead to the black powder guys at The Club.

That much lead may be hard to come by these days, people use to give it away but then it became valuable but that may be over since the price on scrap is down.

Neat weights. I don't know about lead prices, a while back one of the auto stores was paying $20 ea for full sized batteries. The other stores were paying $10. I need to check as we have about 4 to get rid of.

The bottom 4 weights are lead. I used a cake pan for a mold and drilled the hole in the center with a 1" drill bit. I think they are about 26 or so pounds each. They work really well.

I've been playing with the idea for a long time of making a sand cast of a ih weight out of pure lead or a "stronger" mix. I did the math once before and they really wouldn't weigh a whole lot more iirc it was less than 15 lbs.
I've also played with the idea of using a old wheel as a mould to make a "fitted" weight that would sit down flush with the back side of a valve stem which would still allow a ih weight to be bolted on top. Just haven't gotten around to gathering the lead. Only have maybe 80 lbs at the moment

My 1872 came with these. I wander if I could make a plaster cast of a wheel weight and re-pour?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
