I said, "I'd be better off replacing", but didn't say I was going too. Is that the way to go, if I was?

If the wood is in good condition removing, brightening and staining really is not that bad. If wood is bad then replace. many videos on refinishing on line to look at. I would use a solid stain, covers more and last longer.

I agree that solid stain is the way to go especially on older wood but make sure you don't get something to dark, it will make the deck hot and burn your feet.

Composite is nice but depending on how your deck is made you may need to add more joists to keep the planks from sagging.

Just pulled all the old wood decking off mine and putting down Trex composite. Had to do some work on the framing because I'm going to picture frame it. Had to add some joists on the ends to accommodate.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
