Default Motor races on half throttle
I have a 1450 Cub and just cleaned it up...needed a new govneror spring and I installed it exactly in same holes
motor races and goes hi RPM at half throttle

any suggestions?

Did you go through the governor and throttle adjustment procedures as per the Kohler manual?

If the new spring is stronger, the governor arm may be slipping on the governor shaft. The pinch bolt may not be tight enough. Adjust as noted by J-Mech.

I agree with the others, adjust the governor as the manual says and see if that helps. Its possible that the new spring is to stiff and over riding the governor.

the aluminum exhaust baffle on my 1200 broke years ago and it would sometimes hit the governor arm and over rev the engine

"YESSSSS! Tightened up the governor arm and the thing works exactly like it should. I can now push the throttle to full and the engine runs up smoothly to about 3600 RPM and stays there. When I engage the PTO and deck the RPM drops a hair for just a second and then recovers."
