Default Brake Adjustment Bolt CC 71
I recently purchased a CC model 71. The previous owner had broken the head off the Brake adjustment bolt. Is it possible to replace this bolt by just unscrewing it all the way out and placing a new one in...or will it disturb the internal workings of the braking system?

Well, it's likely the head was twisted off in an attempt to adjust the brake, and the bolt is rusted stuck. Sure, you can just unscrew the old one and replace the bolt. IF you can get the old bolt out. It's likely that you will have to remove the lever, and get rough with it to get it out. In which case you will likely find that the lever's pin is also rusted in place. You may get lucky, but I bet your in for some real work to get that bolt out. Good luck!

I think I may be one of the lucky ones. The brake adjustment bolt functions just fine (already made proper adjustments).

I had to grind (2) standard size nuts down to a quarter thickness each to make it function as advertised.

I would just like to have a proper bolt (with head attached) and lock nut.

As is those (2) thin nuts function, just difficult to manipulate.

From the parts book, the bolt you need is a 3/8-16 X 1-3/4 Square Head Oval Point Set Screw, which I believe is also case hardened. The original part # for them was 102-459 (from a 1964 parts book), but they appear to be no longer available from CC. You should be able to find them if you have a very good hardware source in your area. Most places carry cup point, but the oval head is harder to find. Check the site sponsors at the top of the page first to see if any have it. I have also seen some good used ones on the usual auction site from time to time and that is where I got the last one I needed.
