1541 Throttle Cable Adjust
Hi Folks,
Is there a process anywhere on how to adjust the throttle cable. I can get more RPM's out of the engine by manually increasing it on the carb but not sure how the governor is set up. The throttle lever will not go to the top of the limit on the dash. Would like a little more pushing power when the snow comes. Thanks |

How fast is the engine running?
Just because the throttle lever doesn't go all the way up doesn’t mean it isn't running like it should. |

I don't know how many RPM's you think is "well over" 3600..... but the flywheel's integrity is limited to 4000 RPM. I don't like to go above 3800 for risk of exploding the flywheel. So.... safe bet is 3800.

I have a Case 444 that has hit around 4500 or so momentarily while adjusting the throttle stop to max out at 3600 which Kohler says is the max RPM for the engine. That's well over what Kohler says.

I have no idea what you were doing to your Case... and it doesn't matter. Anything over 4000 is not necessarily safe. That's why there are 4000 RPM rules in pulling. Anything over that, a steel flywheel is required. No, it won't explode at 4000. May not explode until 4500, or 5000..... but it has been proven that 4000 and below is safe. |

1541 rpms
Thanks much for the feedback. Everything I have learned about the 1541 came from this forum. I like the digital tach idea and will try to find one. What would the wires be connected too? Thanks.

The tach is just a hand held tool that reads a piece of reflective tape you place on a rotating part.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
