Probably whatever is on sale on ebay. Likely a set of Deestones. I'm cheap, and it seems there are only a few companies who make the narrow tri-ribs. So, I'll just buy whoever has them cheapest. I'll spend better money on the rears.

That's cool! But we don't have enough topsoil in Crawford County to do that. It would just roll big chunks of clay up, then nothing would grow!

Went to no-till when I was like 4. I wouldn't know how to set a plow if you held me at gun point. It does look fun tho!

So, coming back to this thread. Finally got around to purchasing a set of tri-ribs for the front. Took the rusty rims off, blasted and painted them. Removed the bearings fully expecting to replace them all, but to my surprise, only one was bad. I was going to purchase a set of nice bearings from ebay, but since one was all I needed, a stop to the local Rural King and I bought a Stens bearing. Doesn't look like it is made as well as the old ones, but for $7 and I had it right then, I'll deal with it. Anywho..... I'm happy with them. Amazing how much better it looks without rusty rims on the front. I though the tractor suddenly looked like crap when I went to the narrow tires, but I wasn't painting them until I got new tires to mount to them.

On the rear, I had switched to the 6.50's because the 10.50's are just too wide for a 8" plow. The 6.50's work fine for plowing, but for tilling and planting they are just too narrow, as they sink in too deep with planting, and on the tiller running over the plowed ground, they make the ride too rough. Plus, they are shorter and I could get high centered while making the finishing pass where you have to straddle the remaining dirt with the double dead furrow. I mentioned in the first post that I wanted to go to the 8.50 lugs... well... I finally got a couple sets of 8.50's with decent tread rounded up. Put them on for now, but hoping before spring plowing that I can get a set of lugs, mount them and paint the rear rims. (Honestly, I am hoping to go all through this tractor this winter. Winter is always hard on me financially, so we'll see.) I am trying to decide on what I want for the lugs anyway, as I do plan to dual this tractor eventually, and I want the duals matching. I really want the 23 deg Firestones, but I don't want to buy 4 of them because $500 worth of tires on a GT just seems like a lot as I can get 4 brand new BFG's for my truck for just over $600. Don't know why they have to be so much more expensive than a True Power other than it's just because they say Firestone on them. Anyway, I put one dual on with two 6.50 dual adapters stacked to see how it looked. I like it, but I think it's just a little far apart. I want to get the stance right at 60" for the project I have in mind, and as it is in the pics it would be right at 65". I think I'm going to shoot for 2"-2.5" between the tires. We'll see.

Also, my old Cub Cadet wheel weights may have bit the dust. Had these forever, and they get switched around from machine to machine, depending on what I need. The plastic was cracked when I got them, and when I removed them this time, they may not go back on. Apparently, they are filled with metal scraps and mortar or some kind of *chit*. Once the plastic cracked, the chit started falling out. Guess it's time to shop for some steel weights. Should probably put up an ad.

Tri ribs look good on the fresh painted wheels. BUT those weights have seen better days. I gave a set of those plastic covered ones away with my 149.
Just a bugger for me getting them on, so let someone else fight with them.
Duals? You just going to run them on the landside?

No, I don't want to run one on the land side. I don't like tilling the garden after plowing. I have to till it twice at least to level it up, and that leaves the soil over worked. Powder nearly. I want to build a small pull type disk. While I am well aware of the machines ability to pull, I think I can build a 5' disk and it will pull it. I'm not going to sock it in 4" deep like a large disk would go. I found a guy on WFM that built one and pulls it with a 140H3. He said it pulls it just fine. Anyway... duals for traction, but mostly to make it ride better. It SUCKS running on plowed ground with a Cub. Small tires and lots of uneven dirt beats you to death. I have a Brinly tandem disk, but it doesn't work for crap. Angle of the gangs is all wrong, can't level it on a sleeve hitch, blades are too small.... just sucks. Probably end up pulling it with something else with a bigger motor.... but I'd like to try it out on the 1050. If all goes well, I'll put that new 12hp in it this winter that I have ready to assemble, but never have.
