Default 129 front power takeoff will not disengage

Great little machine with use of mower deck for grass cutting. Last fall as we were shutting down for the season, suddenly could not disengage the mower deck. The original operators manual is not helpful which covers C Cs 86,108,128,129,149 and 169. It illustrates "adjusting the power take off clutch" but show it on a 128 and is not similar to my 129. Have tried every position with the clutch lever rod as well as totally disengaging it. I did note that the wear button on the on the engaging lever was fragmented. No matter what I try, I can not get the belt pulley to disengage from the "cookie cutter which attaches to the main drive shaft.

All I can find is to take it to a local Cub Cadet dealer but they have pretty much vanished at least for the International built.

Where do I go from here?

Thought all those used the same clutch? I'm assuming you mean the fiber button is broken, you said fragmented. Is there enough of it left to actuate the clutch? Pics here would really help figure this out.

I find it odd, that it worked once, then all of sudden it don't. Sounds like something, is bent, broken, or missing parts.

How about some pictures of this situation...??

Can you post a pic of the clutch so we can see what we're working with? There were two different styles of PTO on the wide frame's and it would be helpful if we knew which style you have.

On my 102 everything seemed fine then when I was driving up a hill my pto engaged itself when a loud crack. Turned out the pto button was worn enough the arm touched the 3 retaining wing things on the outside of the pto and it broke them off the whole thing had to be rebuilt.

Every time I have a mechanical PTO fail to disengage, it's due to a failure of the clutch button.

There are two types of mechanical PTOs, the standard button actuated style (used on all previous Cub Cadets) and the Brake style used on later Wide Frame (1x8/9 series) tractors.

I don't have any brake style PTOs working on a WF tractor, though my 109 came with one. It actually came WITH the tractor, not ON it. It was sitting on the seat. And I never repaired or installed it, so I haven't worked on that style PTO yet.

Your Service Manual should show both types and help you diagnose the cause, but it's safe to say that the linkage, lever arm or actuator is not working to disengage the PTO clutch.
