Default 105 question

Alright fellas- I think I have one last question and problem to solve before I have a running tractor. Between the service manual and this site I can't thank you guys enough for all the knowledge I've gained on here.

So here it is- my hydro lever (speed lever) will not move at all. I have removed the cotter pin and clevis pin from the bottom of the speed control linkage to separate it from the brake rockshaft. I was going to remove the entire speed lever assembly from the bottom of the tractor. I then realized the speed control assembly is attached to the cam plate and associated linkage, ball joints, etc.

So I can't get it out of the bottom of the tractor

Does anyone know of an easier fix for this? If I look in the control tower I can see that the speed control rod and springs and things are a rusted mess and I've been soaking it it Kroil in hopes to free it up.

Any hints or help is much appreciated guys, lemme know what you think.

Keep soaking it. You have to get it freed up. If the shaft won't turn, you won't get it out the bottom, even if it fit, and even if you wanted too. If it won't turn, it's stuck.

Disconnect all the linkage from it so that you are just focusing on the part running through the dash. FWIW, I had a 125 a while back that was froze up when I got it. I had it freed up in just a few days soaking it with Kroil and trying to move it. You sure you don't have something else jamming the linkage?

I've disconnected all linkage possible. I'll keep soaking it and tapping it around. On a hydro tractor, should the speed lever be able to be moved freely with the engine off? AND not touching the brake pedal? I did notice before I disconnected the brake rockshaft and the bottom of the speed control linkage, the brake pedal wouldn't depress all the way, maybe an inch short of where the park brake lever could be engaged.

again, thanks for the help.

If the lever is froze not in the neutral, you can't depress the brake.
Keep spraying it, it will come. I've had several that came to me that way.

Terry and J - thanks for the help. Can't wait to have her running. Just to be clear, you should not need to press the brake to move the speed lever, it should move freely, correct? Never owned a hydro before.

thanks again

It should move freely. The brake pedal will put it back into neutral if the lever is in forward or reverse.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
