Default 106 w/42" QA deck pto belt question

Ive looked on this forum and know that I need a IH-490489-R2 belt for pto to deck. When I try and order this online I have one website saying its a 81.5" by 1/2 belt and another saying its a 3/8" 80" belt. I thought it was a 3/8 by 80" but the other site has me wondering. Can anyone confirm before I order? this is for a cc 106 with a 42" QA deck. Thanks

the stens 265-037 belt that shows as a replacement for the pn- 490489-R2 . The specs show 81.5" 1/2 . When I look on cub cadet specialties it lists 490489-R2 as 80" 3/8 ? I think I can pick up the stens 265-037 locally if its the right one.

Only Cub Cadet websites are going to give you accurate information. Third party or aftermarket sites can have the wrong information. The IH-490489-R2 is: 3/8" x 80"

I agree, I looked at the worn out belt on the 106 and its 1/2 inch . Not suprising that it jumps off as soon as you engage the pto. It might travel half way into the pulley.

Cub cadet specialties sent the wrong belt. I ordered a 490489-r2 and got a 489399-r1 which is 1/2by 80 . Not happy...... my question is this belt is 80" and its much to short. I tried it and with the sdjustment pulley all the way in I still would have had to pry it on. I need a much bigger belt. It doesnt even seem like an 81.5 would work. Any help?

Maybe someone at CCS got the belts and sleeves mixed up and who knows what you got? Are there any markings on the belt itself? Did you try measuring it?

I get a measurement of 79.5 by making a mark on the belt and then rolling the belt on the ground next to a tape measure until i come up to the mark again.( my measuring method may be off a bit so i believe its an 80" belt). The part number is stamped on the belt (489399-R1) which some online digging shows it a 1/2 by 80" belt . I figured since its an 80" i would try it. I adjusted the tensioner pulley all the way in and took the spring of the other pulley next to it. Even after that i had to pry it on. It was so tight when cranking the pto was engaged but would not turn. I did not start it like this, i just wanted to see if it would even spin. I wonder if i may have a 42" deck off another model?

I measured 79.5" with some possible slight error so i'm sure it's an 80" belt but it is 1/2 width assuming the width is measured by the outside of the belt. The part number 489399-R1 is on the belt which is a 1/2 by 80" belt. Other online companies show a belt that directly replaces the 490489-R2 as being a 1/2 by 81.5" Its confusing . Not sure what to order or if i can return this one.

Roland has said twice what the correct belt is. Return that one and 1) ask for the correct belt or 2) get a refund and order the belt directly from Cub Cadet. Item 14 in the below diagram:

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
