Default They want the 108 with the house...???

Suppose (not sayin' it happened to me, mind you ) you were selling a house and the buyers put your Cub Cadet 108 in the contract to convey with the property. Suppose you've had this 108 for 35 years and have lovingly restored it--partially one time and completely a second time, just a couple years ago.

Of course, you scratch it on the counter offer. Maybe the buyers won't care as they have no clue...but suppose they insisted.

How much do you insist it is worth? (You've just invested almost $3000 in it--tires, rebuilt engine, creeper, spring assist, clutch, PTO, seat, lights, etc., etc.)

And since it was your first CC, there is a sentimental factor...

I think you go on CL and find a used $500 CC lawn mower and clandestinely substitute it...they'd never know the difference...

If it was me, Frank, that would actually be a deal breaker. MY first CC that I've owned for 35 years is NOT part of the deal for a house. Either go on C-list and get one, throw it in, or give them an "allowance" to get their own, or NO DEAL.

But, I'm just that kind of a hard a$$.

If they're insisting Frank, what about any of your other ones that you're not as attached to......if there is one?

I don't think they would be putting on the contract unless they were head over heels for it which it sounds like they are. Gotta be flattering. Yeah, that ones not for sale.

I would be upfront and explain that it was your first CC and there is a sentimental factor... I would paint another one the same way your Cub Cadet was.

I'd also keep the 108, Frank. I know it means a lot to you.

Yep, no deal for me. You can never replace a Cub you have owned for 35 years.

Couldn't you just offer them one (maybe two) of your kids/grandkids instead??

Crisis averted! The buyers have ratified the contract with the tractor scratched off. whew! It was even more touchy as the house has been for sale for 4 years and the price has been cut to the bare bones to sell. Wife was like, heck, give'm the tractor!!! It's just a lawn mower! (blasphemy!)

Now to see if this sale goes through. I'll have to bring the 108 back home and put it back in the stable. My "148" (the 108's big brother) said he misses his little buddy...

(Funny thing is, when they asked for a pair of antique iron twin beds that my wife bought over 40 years ago and refinished/repainted (very cute), she said, heck no! they can't have those beds!!! But the tractor..."well, let'em have it."

So in addition to the Cub crisis averted, you can add marital crisis averted as well!!

Here's the 108 in the foreground.

Sam, one thing I won't do is sell or get rid of my family history. There not enough hours in the day to convince me to let the things that have come thru my family move on.I have a 1963 cc100 that my dad bought new.We restored it back to working condition in 1983,my last project with him. When i want his advice,i take it for a long drive and can hear his voice.Im glad you got to keep the tractor.nice collection. Rick

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
